Spring Anklet pattern (image intense)

After posting my anklets about two months ago, I recieved so many compliments, and even requests for the pattern, that I dug out my index-card scribbles, rewrote them, and made another pair, taking photos so I could do this "tute-style"

So, here's my first attempt at a tutorial.

 

note:These socks were designed by me, for me...I wear a size 8w/8.5 shoe. But the major change for different sizes would most likely be in the foot length, unless you have extremely slim ankles, or very deep heel-cups...

 

Supplies:

Sock weight yarn. I used Bernat Baby Jacquards in the linked show and tell, and Sensations CuddleMuffin for this tute. (ETA: 1 skein of either of these yarns is enough, with plenty left over, possibly even enough for a second pair...but I haven't made two pair with the same colorway yet--and you thought second sock syndrome was bad...I'm not ready for 3rd and 4th sock syndrome! ) You can use regular sock yarn if you prefer...I'm just allergic to wool.

 

Size E (3.5mm) hook

 

 

 

Leaving a 4-6 inch tail, work 44 fsc. (or you could chain 45, and single crochet in the second and each remaining hook, but the fsc has better stretch, which helps get the opening over your heel). Being careful not to twist, join to the first sc with a sl st.

 

Heel:

1. Ch 1, sc in first 22 sts, leave remaining unworked (this is your RS)

2. ch 1, turn. Sc in eahc of 22 sc.

3. Repeat step 2 for a total of 13 rows. Last row completed should be a RS row. Do not fasten off.

Heel "cup":

1. Ch 1, turn. Sc in first 15 sts only, leave rem. sts unworked.

 

2. Ch 1, turn. Sc in 1st 7 sts, sc-dec next 2 sts.

(I used the invisible decrease here. I realize that makes for a lousy tute picture. You can use the regular decrease just fine on these socks, in fact, you almost have to for the rest of the heel cup)

 

3. Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st seven sts, sc dec next sc and first sc from unworked row.

 

4. Repeat step 3 until all unworked sc's from heel flap have been used. You should end up with a cup with 3 sides and a bottom.

 

 

Heel "gusset":

1. ch 1, turn. Sc across bottom 8 scs, work 13 scs along ends of rows,Mark Sc just made [sc FL next st. Sc BL next st] across sc's from foundation sc round. (22 scs across top) work 13 sc's in ends of rows (mark first of these 13 sc), Join with sl st.

 

2. Ch 1, turn. Sc next 11 sts. Sc-dec next 2 sts. (place marker on dec). [sc BL next st, Sc FL next st] across top of foot (22 sts). Sc-dec next 2 sts (place marker on dec), sec remaining 19 sts. Join.

 

3. Ch 1, turn. Sc next 18 sts. Sc-dec next 2 sts. (move up marker). [sc FL next st, Sc BL next st] across top of foot (22 sts). Sc-dec next 2 sts (move maker), sec remaining 10 sts. Join

 

4. Repeat steps 2 & 3, (sc counts on either side of join will decrease by one, every round) until you have 20 sc remaining across bottom of foot. (Should be 5 on one side of join and 15 on the other, including dec's)

to clarify: in photo, ankle is at top, and toe end is facing left.

 

Foot:

1. Chain 1, turn. Sc across sole, (keep moving markers as you go, it makes it much easier to see when to begin the pattern stitch) Work established pattern across top of foot, sc across remaining sole. Join. (42 sts)

 

2. Repeat step one until foot reaches just past your pinky toe (or 1.5" before end of toes). For me this was~ 6 1/4" when measuring from ankle opening to toe opening along the top of the foot. Take note of your measurement for when you work the second sock, it's easier than eyeballing, to get the same size on both socks)

 

Toe:

Ch 1, turn. Sc-dec on ea h side of markers, maintaining pattern across top of foot between decreases. Continue working in rounds in this manner, until only 20 stitches remain. (You will likely find you have to adjust your decreases for the joining. One method is to slip stitch over on the right side rounds, to make room for the decrease before the marker. Another is to move that decrease to the other side of the join. either method will work, just pick one and go with it for the last couple rounds of your sock)

 

FO, leaving long tail for sewing. Turn sock inside out, and sew toe closed (I just weave the tail through the stitches along the toe opening, and then tie off, and weave in the tail a couple directions along the toe, to secure)

 

Now use the beginning tail to tidy up the join at the beginning of your sock if you used the fsc, by pulling it through the "chain" of the last fsc, and back through the first "chain" of the first sc. weave in to secure.

 

You're done!

now go make the other sock!

......... well... didnt get my sock(s) done.

Just when I posted earlier... got interupted.. then had to run to the store.. then get the two younger ones from school.. then get home.. make dinner...feed them.. get the youngest to baseball practice.. leaving the middle one to watch him.. off to get the older one from Track practice..took him dinner... back home change his clothes.. drop him off at baseball practice.. go pick up the other two and back down to where the older one is to drop off dinner to hubby who at this point is there...leave hubby with older one.. bring other two home.... and here I am.

Now... I want to get some work done on this sock!

Okay... this is what I got done yesterday... after redoing what my grandson ripped out....

I'm about ready to close up the toe today.... and then start the next sock. I'm going to make up a "pamper me" package for my mom for Easter... and these socks are going in it.
