Favourite Crochet/Craft blogs

Recommended Posts

Hey All!

I've been browsing the web the past few days and have stumbled upon some crochet and craft blogs that I've added to my favourites list. In the interest of expanding my crafting horizons, I'd like to hear about some of your favourite sites for craft patterns and inspiration.

Here are a few of mine for starters. Please note that a couple of these are not crochet sites at all, but I look at them and think "I could crochet that!" so I'll add them here as well. Some of them are beyond me altogether, but I appreciate the talent that goes into each work.

Our very own Planet June has a great site. (She has also started a really neat paper crafts blog at foldingtrees.com)

NeedleNoodles - has lots of amigurumi, lots of tutorials inluding a great one for attaching hair to dolls and amis. She has the cutest little offbeat amis in her book, Creepy Cute Crochet. Most of the dolls are variations of the same basic body type, but I considered it worth the purchase anyways.

Cthulhu Crochet and Cousins - has her own patterns, plus links to other cool crafty things she finds on the net. She also has a great tutorial for making perler bead designs using pixelated video game pictures from the net. I am so going to try those.

Geek Central Station - a perfect match to my geekified self! I was so excited to find this site just a few days ago - the author crochets amigurumi dolls based on movies and video games. My absolute faves are the Lord of the Rings and Legend of Zelda dolls. What makes them really stand out, are the AMAZING accessories that her boyfriend creates for each one out of sculpey clay. The details are mindblowing, but the sad part is I could never replicate them myself! The dolls are sweet though, and I'm having fun drooling over them, they also have a Etsy shop to check out...and they will probably find me as a customer sometime in the near future, hee!

The Mario Scarf Blog - The author is knitting the linear screen map for Level 1-1 from the original Super Mario Bros. Nintendo game. It was her boyfriend's idea. It's turned out to be a huge project but I love her motivation - her boyfriend has promised to propose when the scarf is finished! Too funny, and who doesn't love themselves some Mario? This is going on my own to-do list, in crochet, of course. Though what I'll do with it when I'm finished, I don't know! Display it behind glass, maybe? LOL

Ana Paula's Amigurumi Patterns and Random Cuteness - I had bought a few of her patterns back when I first discovered Etsy and only recently did it occur to me to look up her blog. Very sweet little toys and dolls that I love making for the kids I know. She also has recently had a book published,

My Knitting Island - Written by Svetlana whom I believe is also a member here on the 'ville. Mostly knitting, as the title suggests, but I'm in awe of her talent. I love that she doesn't often use a pattern for her garments, she finds pictures in magazines and on websites and just knits from those! And all of her creations fit her perfectly, she knows exactly how to alter things to suit her figure - I wish I had the eye to do that for myself!!

Owlishly: Crochet - the most adorable little dolls, I covet these but have not yet bought a pattern. Also has a hair tutorial that looks great I am anxious to try out. I think she is a member here as well.

So most of these are gravitating heavily towards amigurumi toys and dolls, but please don't let that limit you! It just seems that those projects have become my focus of the moment, but I'm always open to new ideas and I'm sure a lot of you are the same way. I can't wait to see what you guys have to share!!!!

****fingers crossed that all the links work!***

I knit as well as crochet, and I love the Yarn Harlot. She's so funny, so observant, etc. She has a very strange story on her blog right now about knitting on the subway and someone thinking she was crocheting.

Yeah, I saw that...Did you read some of the comments? My co-worker and I were cracking up laughing!

Anybody interested should read the blog post first:

...then the comments (suggesting what Stephanie should have said instead of saying nothing).

Anybody read Crazy Aunt Purl? Yes, she knits, but she's hilarious and thought-provoking by turns. She blogs about her cats and her garden and her family in addition to her knitting. I've been inspired by her decluttering and eco-friendly posts. She's all about the "self-helpy". She and the Crochet Dude (another great blogger, of course!) know each other and sometimes appear in each other's blogs. Check her out here: http://www.crazyauntpurl.com/
