Is there a difference?

Some multi-colored yarns are referred to as variegated and some are referred to as ombre.......is there a difference?

I've always thought that variegated means more than one color and ombre means different shades of the same color.

Variegated yarn is made with different colors, while ombre is made with different shades of the same color.

I don't remember which is which, but one has different colors, eg: red/white/blue, the other is different shades of the same color, eg: dark/med./light blue (sometimes with white). I hope this helps.
