what is this symbol

Sofia

Question

I am trying to follow a chart for a doily I got off the internet.

I have searched a number of sites but cannot match one of the symbols. It looks like () together with a bar across the top.

any ideas?

Is there a bigger list of symbols? The sites I have found have just the basic. siinge. double, treble......

Thanks

Not to be difficult but a puff stitch is a specific stitch and it does NOT involve any DC. The puff stitch is just using multiple YO's (up to 9)

That symbol is for a 3-DC cluster.

This shows you a Puff Stitch

I checked my 300 motifs book; it has the international symbols for most stitches.

If the symbol has the slashes for DC then it is a Cluster.

if it just has vertical lines and no slashes then it is for a Puff stitch.

If it is for a Puff stitch, the directions (if any) may tell you how many yarn overs you have. without any instructions, 9 is assumed. I can probably find the written instructions at Celt's site if you need that

Here is a good pic of a Puff stitch (scroll down towards the end) and right above it is the Cluster stitch.

() with a bar across the top, according to the diagram key in the back of my Crochet Today magazine, is a half double crochet cluster (hdc cl or hdc2tog). If there had been slash marks across the 'parenthsis', it would have been a double crochet cluster.
