sc in back loop only every row creates a rib effect

 

sc, ch1, sc, ch1

sc, ch1, sc, ch1 every row is also quite giving

 

not really sure which way you want to stretch

shell's got it - this is the best stretchy st around! The larger the hook the stretchier is is so make some gauge swatches!

If you do the "sc,ch1,sc" one, it will stretch up and down. You can turn the work sideways if you want it to stretch sideways.

 

I used treble spaces in my water bottle bag. The variation using the spaces is really stretchy. Mine is getting too big for the bottle!
