Crochet doll & dress/cool whip bowl

Everyday Crochet

Question

Does anyone remember these? You crocheted a skirt and then attached it to the bottom of a cool whip bowl. Then you made a dress for a small doll and the doll fit through the lid of the bowl....????

I would love to find the pattern for this. I remember making them when I was a child and I know of two little girls would love to have one.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a link to a Trinket Box doll. It just uses a container with a lid, not specifically a cool whip container, but it kind of looks like your description.

Here's abooklet for sale that has trinket boxes made from a bleach container:

It also looks like there's a pattern for a trinket box in a booklet called "Annie's Favorite Crochet Dolls." When new, it's $65.

I did a search on Addall.com in their Used books and you can get it for about $10. I've bought from Abebooks and they're reputable.

Also Amazon has it used for about the same price and you can look inside some of the pages by clicking on the image. The index shows a Trinket Box Debutante Doll

I made couple of these back in the late 80's for a co-worker's daughter without a pattern. The co-worker saw it somewhere and explained what it was and I made it best to my understanding, fitting the crocheted dress to a 9" doll (barbie doll size). I'd forgotten that the cool whip container also had a crocheted skirt until I saw a few samples. They're fun to make and the kids love them.

I have made several of these.  Here is a place on ebay that has several patterns.

I remember these. It seems like we always knew 3 or 4 women who made them as bed dolls, for about 20 years.

My youngest sister had some of these bed dolls that her MIL made for her many years ago. My sister loved them, but they are long gone.

The sister of a friend of mine came up with some of the dolls out of the back of a closet a couple years ago, so we figured it would be no big deal to find a pattern. Ha! These are not Barbie's and not baby dolls.

I think we are going to make our own patterns. The skirt isn't supposed to be tight around the bowl. It was never obvious that a bowl was under there. Often the skirt had 2 or 3 ruffles.
