Squares for Survivors -now with link!!!

Crochet Buffet

Recommended Posts

If anyone has the 2005 Crochet pattern-A-Day calendar, there are a few 6" squares patterns in there. Some of them are using the 'bullion' stitch (which, up until yesterday I'd never tried.) but a couple are just 'normal' (not advanced)stitches. I finished one square last night; I don't know if I will make any more of that one, but I will make more squares.

The interview was this morning.

I was sooooooooo nervous!

The reporter and cameraman said I did GREAT!

I talked about EVERYTHING from how I came up with the idea, to how I learned to crochet.

I was happy to have squares to show them.

I had received 15 squares in the mail Friday, and my son and I made 25 over the weekend, plus some I'd been working on anyway.

They seemed very impressed with all the response and "pledges" I've received. It's a rough estimate that I could get at least 500 squares!

:clap:clap:clap

I tell ya, the number of fiber artists getting involved is overwhelming!

I'm so glad to be a part of this sisterhood!!

It's set to air at 6pm and 10pm central time tonight. I don't know if it'll be on the website, but I'm going to try to record it.

The station said they'd get a copy to me, and I'd like to have it put into a digital format, so I can upload it to the site.

Oh- they're also going to do a follow up story when I start putting the squares together. I'm hoping to have a few locals helping me put the squares together by then!

Crochet Buffet,

:sheepjump :sheepjump :sheepjump :sheepjump :sheepjump :sheepjump :sheepjump :sheepjump

I have several ready to get into the post tomorrow.

I have made some new ones and finished off some already started and also finished off some that my 89 year old mum made. I even pulled back a couple of rows to make some the right size.

It will cost a bit to post but it will be my contribution to the cause.

I am also selling some things on Trade Me, which is a NZ Auction site similar to e-bay, and have raised $30.00 NZ so far but it will be more by the time I am done.

I wish your interview was being played over here but who knows, CNN may get hold of it and we will all see it.

Was it TV ?:hug :hug :hug

Crochet Buffet, have you ever actually crocheted a Buffet? I have patterns for food and pot plants and other unusual things.

I purchased a set of books, many years ago, which arrived weekly and all ended up filling 12 folders. Well I collected the complete set which actually cost me a fortune, Now they sit in my cupboard gathering dust.

I must get them out and have a look at them again.

You should have my parcel this time next week if I dont have to mortgage the house to pay the postage.:hug :hug :hug

Have fun.

I made three cute daisy squares last night and put them in the mail this morning. If the post office tries really, really hard, they may make it by Monday morning. I will make more and send later.

I guess the PO was on your side, because the squares arrived today!

They're BEEEEEEYOOOOOOTEEEEEEFULLL!! :D

I love the pattern, and the SS yarn just makes it that much more... beautiful!

Thank you so much!!

and my inbox is suffering the effects! :rofl

I got a huge response from it's 6 o'clock broadcast!

Offers of yarn donations (which I really need) and a few 'you're doing a great thing' and lots more square donors!!!

They re-ran a part of the segment at 10, and again, my inbox cursed me! :D:D

I found out that there is another LYS (cheesey grin) *and* they have a bi-weekly stitch group of crocheters *and* knitters!!

*and* they want me to join *and* they're going to start squaring for S4S!!! :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

I'm going to ask the owner if I can have local people make square drop-offs at her shop.

I'll see how long it'll be to get a copy of the interview and see how to get it online.

I spoke with the LYS owner this morning, and not only has she offered a space for drop offs, she's even giving discounts to people who buy yarn for S4S!!!

:clap

I'm going to meet her in person this evening.

She's going to announce me as a Special Guest at the next crochet/knit group. :blush

I also called the news station, and apparently, the phones have been ringing off the hook with people wanting to contact me.

I didn't give out my home number, but kinda wish I had, now.

The reporter has given them my mailing address for people wanting to mail squares, and now I told her to give out my number to those who asked.

It's a good day!

how do you post a button on a blog?

I tried the link in your signature, but it didn't go to the right place.

Anyway, to answer your question, I'm not sure I could put the HTML here, but I'll try:

:cheer :cheer :cheer Posted about 25 squares today and was told they will take about 10 days to get to you.

By then you will have all the others worked into Afghans.

Are you taking pictures of all the Afghans you make? What a great display they would make.

Maybe, before you send them off, you could have an exhibition and charge people to come and look at them, thus making some cash to buy yarn to put the squares together or to make more squares.

You could even turn it into a competiton for the public to vote on what they think is the best afghan. A small fee to vote would also add more money to the coffers.

Good luck with the outcome.

Have fun.:sheepjump:sheepjump:sheepjump:sheepjump

I'm going to figit with my DVD Recorder, and try to get it from VHS to DVD, and then from DVD to ... MVP? :rofl Well, I forget the format, but I'll try to get it uploaded from the DVD.
