Poem about Doilies

Recommended Posts

I too have doilies that are vintage from my MIL after she passed away. Come to find out, one is from her mother who went to west Oregon in a covered wagon as a child. Also, a light wool, knit, afghan that nobody knows where it came from. It's still a mystery. These to me are all treasures.

Lovely poem. I just finished a pineapple doily yesterday, and almost all of the thoughts described in the poem went through my mind at one time or another as I worked on it. I love to watch the pattern magically evolve as each row is completed.

Thank-you for sharing such a neat site and poem. Beth

Thanks for that link! :manyheart

I don't have any heirlooms but I often wondered, when looking at (or making a doily from)a vintage pattern, how many have done the same pattern before me. (the now defunct) Celt's site had many patterns from the 1940's; I often pictured ladies working on them while listening to war news on the radio, or maybe to decorate their new post-war home in the suburbs.
