Preemie Afghan Block Patterns?

I want to start doing preemie afghans along with the newborn ones I am making, because preemie is in higher demand, but I am trying to find a pattern that works up fairly quickly.. preferably about an 8 inch square, that of course has no holes and the stitches are snug/tight, but not stiff. I just can't do back and forth rows, because I don't have the patience unfortunately. What patterns do you use for preemie afghans?

I use the never ending blanket square. If you crochet each round from the back, it will look good on both sides. You can also make one big square for the afghan and it will be in one piece. Here's the link to this square. It will be very soft and nice for a preemie if you use a smaller hook and baby yarn.

Thanks :) You might have also answered another question of mine. I will try this square and see how well it works for me. When ever I try to do a solid granny, it always puckers in the middle of each side. I will try this square out and see if it will lay flat for me. This would definitely be a good pattern and if I used an h hook, the few holes would be small enough to not matter.

Thanks again! :manyheart

I would still love to see other options for some variety though ;)

It might pucker if you use a small hook. I am using this pattern right now and I am using ww yarn with an I hook. However, for a baby, you might use thinner yarn and maybe an H would work. I just love this pattern and I used it for a baby with that Pound of Love yarn and it was really soft. Turning the square each round keeps it flat and makes it have ridges and valleys so it looks good on both side and it stays square better.

I know this isn't quite what you asked for but someone posted this at the Every Happy House CAL and I thought it was just adorable! Thinking of doing a couple of these for PL! Thought you might like to give it a try too! They are little squares made up of just the first 2 rounds of a granny square, no tails to weave in usually because you use them to sew the squares together and the pattern options are endless! :hook

This might sound -stupid- but.. I don't know how the navigate that site! :( I can't find the patterns and sizes you mentioned.

By the way, I am sorry I haven't responded to anyone. I got sidetracked with another project. Thank you to all who responded :hug

Hi! I really love this pattern stitch, and you can make it any size. The holes really aren't that big, and when it's lying flat on the ground, you don't see them. Anyway, you can make it as big as you want, then stop, so it's great for any size blanket. I've made this with preemie blankets, all the way up to the size for 5th graders, and you can make it square, rectangle, just however you'd like to do! :)

Another one I LOVE to do for babies, is this one:

I love it because again, you can make it any size you want, and it's not holey for preemies. PLUS, when you make one up, put a little baby in the middle, with the head at the top point of the star. It wraps around the baby like a little bundle! It's ADORABLE!! I'm expecting right now, and as soon as we find out if this is a girl or boy, I'm going to make one up. Again, you can make it as big or small as you want, and you can use whatever yarn/hook that works best for you. Plus, it's a little more exciting than a square, but not difficult at all! I promise. :) If you need any help with this pattern let me know, and I'd be more than happy to help out, just PM me (as I might not see a post here).

I'll second Bev's website too; some amazing things on there that you could use. I think Beth's star pattern is on there too, but I wanted to send the link and a note about it. :)

Good luck!!

Keep up the great work!

Victoria

PS

For the star afghan, I ususally use WW yarn, and an I hook, but then again, I think I crochet tightly, so a G would really pucker for me. Just a note. :)
