That is really cute and I thought about making one for my Christmas tree, but I don't want to put my crochet hook into an ornament and not be able to use it again, you know? If only there was a way to make a fake crochet hook to use for this instead of using a real one...

Just use some chopsticks and cut to length, hook one end, and you got a hook. Sometimes I have those plastic hooks that used to come with afghan kits.

I was thinking plastic too.

Of course it might work as a storage place for one hook (I usually have several in the same size to keep the WIPs) until needed can work... then it may not look as nice without a hook, but...
