I have seen this scarf mentioned on tv before, was this a trend or is it gonna stay through next winter?

For that price I will come up with my own (in crochet of course). It is really long ,long and very nice looking.

I don't know if it is or was a trend but scarves never go out of style, imho. I have always loved really really long scarves and I think they look great on people so go for it.

I'm not sure I'm interpreting it right. The scarf has a loop at one end, so after you drape it you just pull the other end through? Wow! Any one of us could do that for a heck of a lot less money. Neat idea.

That's a great scarf. Looks like a moebius scarf to me. One big round loop. Am I seeing it correctly? Seems like it would be very easy to make. Just make it light & lacy and one big loop, just like the mobius scarf.

I haven't seen that style in a scarf before. I'm gonna say that it could definitely be a trend for the masses this fall. If celebs did last year, then it should have legs over the next scarf season. It's a great idea and can be interpreted in so many different ways. Did anyone see the cover of VK? With Courtney Thorne Smith wearing a scarf? It's three long panels, then you attach the three at the bottom, then loosely braid them, tacking the panels down where they meet another panel. It would be so cool to do this in crochet, or even with more than three panels. I say go for the crochet version!

I have that mag and am working the pattern into a crocheted version. It's really quite simply. The knit version calls for all knit rows. So I'm doing the same but with hdc. It's coming along nicely if I would just stop getting interrupted by little things like cooking, straightening, grocery shopping, other crochet projects that are taking priority, etc. And family keep coming down for visits. GRRRRR I have another sister that is driving down tonight. I expect her within the hour. She's driving down from Mt.Vernon, MO (near Springfield/Branson/Lake of the Ozarks). I wanna crochet!!!

Did we ever decide whether it's a mobius or a straight scarf with a loop at the end? I think it's a loop. I suppose both could be included in the CAL.

One way to figure it out is to take a regular scarf, criss-cross it into the shape they formed (pinning the ends together to imitate the continuous loop), and then check it to see how many twists that is. When I did this it seemed to be a full twist, as opposed to the half twist of the mobius.

I saw it as a scarf with both ends free, but one end worked as a loop for the other end to slip through. Maybe I'm totally offbase.

 

We need some better pictures, is what we need. Anybody know another place where this scarf is shown?

Okay, this is definitely just one regular loop. Not only that, but what a friggin' visible seam!! My grandmother would spit on such an obvious seam. Phooey!

Yeah, we can totally do that. I think if someone decides on a long, semi-lacy scarf pattern, we just have to stitch the ends together to form the loop.

After looking at the pictures of her Spring and Fall 2005 collections I can't tell if it has a half twist in it or no twist at all.

In one shot the model has it hanging loose from her neck and it just looks like a very long mobius, but it could be that it just got twisted behind her neck and it's not visible. Perhaps the knit is so thin and stretchy that it can be twisted many times and still not get bulky. I don't know that I like the look of it the way Mary Kate Olsen was wearing it (kind of looks like a sling for an injured arm to me), but I like the other options that cross the chest and shoulders.

I know people that do that crossed around the chest/shoulders look with just a regular (long) scarf and then just tie it somewhere so I also still think it's just one loop.

 

Technically, if you want it looped, can't you just turn it before seaming it up? It's seems like an easy variation. I think I'm going to try to make one.

I looked at the Fall 2005 picture and at the bottom, written in white it says it is a scarf sewn into a circle ~ so no twist, just a loop

I wanted to add Moebius Shawl/Scarf to the list of patterns. This one is made in one piece instead of making it first and then twisting it.

 

Even if it's not exactly like the scarf Mary Kate is wearing, it would be still a great fashion accessory.

I concur with Elizabeth--it has no twist like a moebius. I was experimenting with a piece of fabric and in order to wear it like the wrap (criss crossing your chest--there is not a twist--you twist it to get that effect). The reason it looks so net like is because it is made using kid mohair which is a fine lace weight yarn so it is extra airy looking. The dimensions are an 82" loop by 14" wide. Get to it ladies! as far as the seam goes, if you crochet in the round it will be less noticable and if your stitch requires you to crochet in rows, when you wear it just be conscious to put the seam in the back.
