Thread Crochet

Recommended Posts

Recently I made my mom a table runner out of Royale Fashion Crochet Thread. It was my first thread experienced and I am happy to announce that . . . . . . . . I AM ADDICTED!! I seriously love it :c9 and just don't want to stop!!! Now I am ready to start a new project and just can't wait!! I have tons of thread gift ideas for my family for fall and winter, so I got out my little project book and wrote them all down so I would be sure not to miss a one. I went out and bought several thread pattern books and printed tons of patterns off the internet. Then I bought all the hook sizes I could possibly need and now I am ready to get my thread! Here comes the sad part :( . . . . . . I am having a hard time finding the thread!! :eek Where in the world can I find a decent collection of crochet thread? I am rather new to thread crochet, so I don't know all the best shopping places, but I have exhausted every LCS in my area, and they all have the standard colors of thread (boring):no . I have at least 8 great patterns for table runners that are done up in the most wonderful fall colors of russet, chocolate, avacado, burgandy, plum . . . . . . and I can't find any of these colors in any stores or even on the internet. The patterns don't say what type of thread is used, just size 3 and 5. I have been using Royale, Fashion Crochet Thread in size 3 and 5. I love it because it has a glossy shine to it, which adds elegance and the size is nice to work with and you can really see the stitches. I have surfed the net, but I am not real good at it so, maybe I am missing something. I surfed "crochet thread" "crochet thread, size 3 - 5", I searched "Royal Fashion Crochet Thread" and "Aunt Lydia's Crochet Thread" but only find a few basic colors and all are under Aunt Lydia's. Do any of you more experienced threadies know of any places on-line where I can order different colors and have them shipped to me? I am just dying to get started on some of these things. Thank you!! :D

J&P Royale Fashion Crochet Thread sz. 3 is made by Coats & Clark and you can go to this URL at the CC web site to see what colors are available and there is a link to shop for the thread online on the page too:

http://www.coatsandclark.com/Products/Crochet/Threads/Size3/JP+Coats+Royale+Fashion+Crochet.htm

Otherwise if you are looking for a J&P Royale Fashion Crochet Thread sz. 10, go here:

http://www.coatsandclark.com/Products/Crochet/Threads/Size10/Coats+and+Clark+Size+10.htm

There seem to be more colors available in the sz. 10 thread than sz. 3 or 5 but I don't know the reason why but I suspect it's probably because sz. 10 is a more popular size for crochet thread than sz. 3 or 5.

I think you can also find the thread in sz. 3 or 5 at a Michaels store but colors are usually limited - at least that's what I find in the Michaels stores in MI when I've gone.

Go to peaches and cream's website. They have a brand that has tons and tons of colors. Most of the rusts and things you mentioned. Beautiful variegated and solids. Not sure of the site name, but I just google peaches and cream yarn and it comes right up!:hook

RoseRed, What catalogs? Can I get on a mailing list too? Thanks.

Cinnaminn, You know I checked Coats and Clark and didn't find the page you listed for the #3, thanks!!

Chrispersmom, I never would have thought of Peaches and Cream, I didn't know they made thread!! Thank you!!

Carovan, I love the fall color's at knitting-warehouse. I didn't find that one because I was looking under Crochet. I guess I need to broaden my searches ha?

Thanks for all the great links and info!!

Why is this so hard? I just want some fall colors. Maybe I should go to the size 10, but I really like the 3 and 5 but cant find any fall colors. Maybe I am just too chicken to use the size 10. I just can believe there aren't any sites out there with browns, spicy colors in burnt orange, brick, cinnomon, burgandy, chocolate, caramel. I was so excited when I went to the one sight and saw the Caron's Grandma's Best Discount Crochet Thread http://store.knitting-warehouse.com/crochet-thread-more-brands.html the colors they show in the picture are perfect, but they don't actually sell those. I am so frustrated. Am I just asking too much. I am new to thread crochet so am I just expecting more than can be found?

Here is a reference I found for thread sizes wheatcarr.com/crochet/crochet-thread-size-information.php

If you want to try using perle cotton, check out the links on this thread

http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58267

I haven't yet used any of the weaving type of perle cotton, but the color choices sure look good.

Try the size 10 - it starts to flow really quickly. Three and five are nice - but ten really comes out nice - and you can find a wide range of colors.

I thought I would really not be able to handle the ten - but I am head over heals now with it - go for it - you can do it!

I haven't used perle cotton yet. the Halcyon site offers sample cards so you could get those and really see and feel the fiber. I don't see where Woolworks has sample cards but maybe they do. Is there a weaving supply store in your area? They would probably have something similar you could look at.

dragonfli, try the sz. 10 crochet thread. It's really not much different than fingering or baby yarn and it IS available in a lot more colors than sz. 3s or 5s. I think once you give it a try, you will enjoy it. :)

Also if you haven't tried it already, you may want to try crocheting with nylon thread like the Hilos Omega threads which are available in different sizes/colors. I know that Hobby Lobby stores carries some of this thread but not in all of the sizes/colors. You can see the different sizes and colors here and can also order it online at this site.

This is an awsome site and I love all the colors. I am aprehensive about Nylon Thread though due to freying/unravelling, but am seriously considering giving it a try just because of all the colors. Have any of you actually used this type of thread before or have any experience with it? I just ordered some thread from Woolworks and can't wait for it to arrive. Any feedback on Nylon Thread would be great. Thanks!!

I just received my first order from Knitting-Warehouse.com and the threads they offer are in a zillion colors and sizes and types and they have great sales going on. What I got was just as nice as I had hoped it would be. And boy did the package arrive quickly. I will order from them often.

Oooohhhhhh, I need to order some of those. I was worried about what I would get ordering sight unseen so to speak. I love these colors. Do they have that luster to them that they appear to have on the web-site? I have so many projects on my to do list, I don't know where to start!!
