Sounds like you're going to town, Deneen! Glad you found a hook that worked for you. :)

I'm halfway done with square #5. The front back loop hdc really makes a neat textured look.

I'm looking forward to the trinity square, but dreading it at the same time as I see it has confused some people. Maybe if I read through the tutorial first before I start the square it might save me some frogging time.

Hugs!

Now I know I'm insane. I have scrapped the idea for my friend's wedding afghan and decided to do another 63 squares for her - or at least part of it. From the looks of the stained glass love seat one that I saw earlier 63 squares would turn out pretty big! I'm going to do the squares in the off-white color that I got, and do the edging and joining in the dark blue. Not sure what I'll think of doing all these squares twice though... didn't someone say something about a 63 more squares book<img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/question.gif" /> Maybe I could do that one for her instead so it would be different? Anyone?

I've got 4 squares done and I'm working on #5. I'm going in numerical order. I seem to have just the opposite problem of many of you. I seem to be crocheting too tight, although my stitches don't LOOK tight. My triple crochet square is the only one that's come out the right size without having to be frogged. I'm on #5 and I've gone up a hook size to size I and it's still coming out small. I've frogged it 3 or 4 times already and don't really want to frog it again :bang . I'm thinking about adding an extra sc row to the edging to bring it up to size.

I was going to ask if anyone else has had to use different hook sizes for different squares, but it looks like it's not an unusual situation.

Thanks Nancy!

I think I am going to just pick out some of the squares from the first 63... I don't want to have to spend the money on a new book already. <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/no.gif" />

2 squares down, x-2 to go... lol

(no, I'm not a geek, why do you ask?) <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/frog1.gif" />

Is it too late to join in on this??

I have the book and already have the yarn for it. To the other poster that asked about going up a size in hooks, I had to go all the way up to a J hook to get the right size square, and that's just for the first square. Hopefully I will be able to stick to the same hook for the rest of the squares. We'll see! :)

Oh, that's just cruel! I was signing on to say that I'm going to join the CaL and now *there's another book* :oops Have I gotten in over my head?

I haven't actually seen the other book in person, though, but I know I'll buy it when I do <sigh>..

Anyway; Hi, I'm jennifer. and I'd like to join the CaL! My step-grandmother-in-law (???) gifted me with some yarn that I'm not getting and vibes from, so I think it'll make a lovely afghan.

Is it just me or is block #5, the Trinity block, just a bit confusing? The directions, at least to me, leave a lot to be desired. I tried to start on it last night and didn't get past the first row.

Donna has a tutorial page for the trinity stitch.....that might help you out. I'm still on the front and back loop hdc square so haven't gotten to it yet. :o) I will definitely be reading the tutorial before I try to start. Several people have had problems with it.

Hugs!

Well, I've got the book so I might as well do this crochet-a-long. I have a ton of yarn already, but I think I am going to have to make a special trip to Walmart to pick up colors just for this. :devil

Thanks Donna. Now I get it :jumpyay..........that "same stitch" was what was confusing me. I started on it last night, but it seems I'm going to have to go up a hook or two. GGGGGGGGrrrrrrrrrr..........more frogging. :thair

You're welcome! :) I had to go up from an H to a J on that one.

Hi all,

This new forum looks great ... much better than the old one :cheer

I'm almost done with my 63 squares... I have 3 more green squares and 2 more rose squares to go... However, I am running out of yarns :( And I cannot find the same green color yarn anymore ... I might have to change color for the last 3 green squares. Sucks ... but I'm hoping maybe the different color will add some kind of characters to my afghan :D

Yep, I had to go up to a J on the Trinity block. It's moving along, I'm almost half-way finished with it. I'm finding that some of my stiches are hard to get the hook inserted into, and I know I'm not pulling them that tight as I make them.

I've also been doing what someone else suggested.....I'm noting in the booklet next to each square what size hook to use. Once I get this scrappy one done, I'm going to do a "Red Hat Society" one........Red and Purple, but I'm not sure what the third color will end up being. Still contemplating that.

I finally got some RH yarn at Walmart for this project. I started last night and I finished my second square on my lunch break earlier today. I doubt it will be perfect, but it's definitely going to be fun! :yay

Hello there!

I haven't been back since I originally posted due to life. *sigh* I've been having to deal with some extended family problems and then I got sick and have been battling with the worst case of bronchitis I've ever had. (My kidlets got it too.)

I only have 3 squares done. I did start the Trinity stitch but I tell you it's a workout! I can't ever get my hook into that second stitch. I'm only on my third row because my hand keeps cramping up. I started another square (can't remember what it is at the moment) and it's coming along pretty good. I just haven't had the chance to finish it.

Well..that's my latest update. Hopefully I will get crackin' on these squares again soon. I just found out that mom and dad may be visiting for Easter so that will slow me up a bit but I'll be around. I'm excited about finishing these squares. I do have one problem, I can't decide if I want to keep this ghan or if I want to give it away as a Christmas gift. Hmmm....:scrachin

Have a great week everyone!

I think that I had signed up for the 63 square CAL in the fall but I never got started, so now I am going to try again! I want to make the afghan for my mother-in-law for xmas and I figure that I better get started now. I ordered some real neat yarn yesterday, so as soon as that comes in I am going to get started!
