Boxing Day 2024 - share any charity!

Last week I happened to be near a Goodwill that I don’t get to very often, so I popped in. I shouldn’t have, but was rewarded with a few packs of yarn for only $2.97. Most stores are 5.97 now. Anyway, one pack had 2 new skeins and one partial skein of I Love This Yarn. Super cute, so of course I made a new dress. 
I tried my machine again last night (back in my room, not at the kitchen table) and had the same problems. I unplugged everything and started over. I was able to sew as normal. So weird. Anyway, here is the new dress. The yarn was still attached because I forgot how many rows I put in the skirt portion. This one was kind of long, but it’s ok.

It's beautiful!!!  I love the colors.  What a find.  I used to have great luck finding yarn at senior center sales, etc. but haven't seen any in a long time.  I suspect with the price of yarn perhaps it isn't as hard to get rid of as it used to be?

Cindy, is it a trick of the light or is that center a darker blue? If it is darker, good job! I love the way that looks!

Thanks, yes the center is a darker shade. Was just using up stuff I had until I had to buy more blue yarn so I just stayed the same shade.

I'm truly becoming a bit of a doll hoarder with this donation project.  With inflation dolls and accessories have not been on sale as much in the past few years at prices I enjoy paying so when I find one a good price I buy and store.  Picked up some doll feeding kits today that won't be used this year but I am using kits I bought 2 years ago this year because last years prices were crazy. 

Donation hoarders it would be a weird episode but thankfully my stuff at least partially empties once a year.

Tracking says these doll clothes along with a few doll blankets have been delivered.   Surprisingly a day earlier than the estimated delivery date.  I cant remember last time that happened.

Those are truly amazing.  I have the box and am hoping to open and get everything sorted tomorrow.  It has been crazy busy here.

The dresses are amazing.  I'm using your pictures to post the year end pics and to include in the baggie with the outfit. 

As for a few blankets when have you ever sent "a few" blankets or is it just defined differently in your part of the country.  You are incredibly generous every year.  It is one of the reasons so many kids get a blanket with every doll or stuffie that leaves.

Brenda, I think I’ve seen the pattern for the red dress with the white lace overlay. Want to try it. I love the blue fringe showing up at just the right places on that dress set. 
The perfect blue to grey shawl is so nice. And a few blankets now means 11?
So much going on. I have a few puney projects to show. But you guys have been working while I am well, working! My rescue is having our big fundraiser event tomorrow so I’ve been busy with that plus real work. And our shelter president who went back to vet school late in life graduated yesterday and got her license this morning. I called her Doctor Brown today. She hates that because of Back to the Future. I think she should just embrace it.  Maybe I can get some pictures at the event tomorrow to show you what we are up to!

Well, my package is delayed in transit.  It was suppose to be delivered on Friday, but I think it got stuck in the Black Hole of NJ.  Hopefully you will get it soon.  I have another I am getting ready for transit.

Everything is so beautiful.  The kids are going to love everything, both teenagers and the kids who get the stuff.

I am sure they love seeing you come in.

That's the PO I know.  I was in.shock when my last 2 packages arrived the day before the estimated delivery date.

Hey now there is no such thing as puney projects to show here!  I wait and post photos as things are turned in or mailed out so they represent months or with the doll stuff a years worth of work.

By now I have developed a basic plain dress pattern (notes and shorthand) using the bodice of the flamenco dress and doing the skirt in double crochet.  I can do it in worsted weight or sport weight.  I use it a lot and then try to add little embellishments. Sometimes I combine elements from multiple patterns.  I played around adding the white lace overlay as I had seen the one you are probably talking about.  The blue fringe is some of that evil eyelash yarn that I sometimes make scarves from.  Sometimes I start a dress from an odd or end yarn and have to let it lay until I come across something to finish it off and accessories.  

I love all the work you do with rescue and all the beds and toys.  It is unfortunate that real work along with cooking and cleaning cuts into your crafting time but thats what pays for the cat food and crafting supplies.  Dh used to say he was only going to work to buy cat food.

Hi everyone. Sorry I have been AWOL, but I got COVID. The day after our fundraiser event I was tired and by Tuesday was sick. Thought it was a sinus infection and then maybe strep throat. Finally Thursday morning I decided I better test. So I haven’t touched my yarn or sewing machine in over 10 days. I’m so exhausted. But that’s how this goes I guess. Anyway, hope you are all well!
