camo afghan

hey everyone,

 

been a long time since ive been to this forum (or crocheted, for that matter ) ...but i feel the need to get back into it.

 

i'd like to do an afghan in the red-hart camo (never used it)..just putting this thread out there to see if any of you have had good results with a pattern for varigated yarn...i dont think i want to do another color...just the green camo.

Just about ANY simple stitch works well with a multi-colored strand of yarn......I remember reading somewhere (no doubt here at the 'Ville) That Hdcs worked well with variegated yarns. This caused less "pooling" of the colors.....that is when there is just a big blotch of the same color that "pooled" together at one point of the afghan. I, myself, like making the rectangular granny square afghans......they are so easy and not too heavy, not too light. Here are a few links.....

Here's one I made with redheart camo.

The strips are just long rectangular grannies with the last round or two done in black. You could make one large granny rectangle, and it would work, too. (I had a limited quantity of yarn, so the "holey" pattern helped to stretch it.)

This one is made in with a granny square pattern. The center was done in dc and the rest was done in trc (I was in a hurry).

 

This is just a regular round ripple pattern with black.

Beautiful Work Krakovianka and RoseRed! I think camo helps to make just about any afghan pattern more "guy friendly"!

thanks for the replies! the long rectangular granny is a nice idea...and krakovianka's afghan/pillow set is beautiful! great work.. rose red, i havent made a round ripple yet..i started one right before i stopped crocheting (about 1 1/2 years ago). the varigated yarn looks great there too! i'll probably end up making those for my kids...2 in girly colors, and camo (of course) for my son...

 

ladycrochat is right, i dont want that "pooling" effect that comes with variaged yarn..isnt it funny how some sections wind up looking flecked, some striped, and some blotchy?

hey i did a camo round ripple its in my blog out of the 8 i made it was the favored i used camo buff and light sage i cant wait to see what you decide to do

granny it looks like round ripples are your current specialty..the color choices you make are dazzling!!

The yarn looks like it would be nice to work with and interesting too. When I use a multi color I try to get the colors in longer stretches in the skein I have found it really will show up in any pattern you make. The shorter distance in color changes tend to be choppy looking in most patterns and it seems to lose the beautiful colors.
