Snowflake Patterns

I'm working on snowflakes. I love making them. I only do the six point (or multiple of 6) snowflake patterns. I have so many pattern books but a lot of the patterns are 8 or 10 pt snowflakes.

Isn't a natural snowflake 6 pts or multiples of 6 pts?

Am I wierd? :think

I've been a bit curious about that myself, for no apparent reason, so I Googled it! The link below is somewhat scientific in nature, but it does explain how snowflakes form...and yes, natural snowflakes are built in a hexagonal structure, meaning they do have 6 sides! And if you want to see some cool pictures of real snowflakes, there are links in the sidebar of the page to snowflake "galleries". Very cool!

Thanks for the input. I will continue skipping over the ones with more than six sides. If I really feel the need to make them with more than six sides I will call them coasters or mini doilies.
