Best kind of shawl pin?

Recommended Posts

The "best kind of shawl pin" would be one that complements and compliments the shawl and the wearer! So, the pin that works for your 5'2" lawyer SIL would not necessarily work for your 5'11" firefighter DS - for example.

This site has a variety of pins in different styles and materials. Looking at them may give you some ideas. And you can Google "shawl pins" and look at the sites that Google returns.

Hope you find what you're looking for! :)

I am partial to pennanular brooches, myself. But that just goes to show what hooked2 said about the pin complementing not only the shawl but the wearer. And I have funky taste :D

Here are some examples:

http://www.craftycelts.com/celtic_brooches.html Just to give you an idea, in case you have no clue what I'm talking about.

Ohhh and I love this one: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=6821610

*sigh* Why is it every time I try to help someone out I end up adding to my shopping list? :lol

ETA: These will slip easily between stitches, so no worries about the size of the pin (they're pretty large).

When I have been wandering through the hair aisles at WM or Dollarama, I have been looking at some of the ponytail covers (with a stick) and thinking that they would look neat on a shawl. has anyone tried this?

I've thought of that too, or even some of the regular hairclips, if your shawl has open enough stitches.

Sweet! And they could "dress up" a shawl a bit too.

As for penannular brooches, I love the one's with Celtic designs but also the very simple ones too: http://www.jelldragon.com/cloak_pins.htm

And yes, I have a cloak that I use them with. Alas, it hasn't gotten much use since we moved out here to the land of eternal summer.:sigh
