I don't know why I didn't think of this site for crochet, but found a link to a Needlework book.

They've scanned very old books and placed them on line.

For example http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/15147 which is Beeton's Book of Needlework

You need to view the HTML or download it. Has some interesting patterns.

Or http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/16605 which is The Ladies' Work-Book Containing Instructions In Knitting, Crochet, Point-Lace, etc.

Thought others might be interested. You can find some other old books too.

There are over 20,000 free books in the Project Gutenberg Online Book Catalog.

A grand total of over 100,000 titles is available at Project Gutenberg Partners, Affiliates and Resources.

If you don't live in the United States, please check the copyright laws of your country before downloading or redistributing a book.

I absolutely LOVE the antique sites!

And the patterns, and just general language from bygone eras, sounds so different, it's refreshing. Like actually stepping back in time for those of us who can get lost in it.

(But then again, I also actually READ cookbooks, particularly antique and regional ones - it transports me to another time or place.)

I know - I'm a bit strange.:devil

Thank you for the Gutenberg link. I knew that college profs were using them for student handouts at one of our univerisities in the inner city but I never thought to look there for crochet books. Thank yo
