Any Soldier

Hi!

I just thought I'd put this link over here <a href="http://www.anysoldier.org/index.cfm" target="_new">www.anysoldier.org</a> in case anyone is looking to do something for the troops for the holidays. It's getting cold <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/smiliecold.gif" /> over there, especially in Afghanistan. I'm sure besides the usual things, they'd appreciate hats & scarves very much. I'm going to try to get a box together to send out Monday, they say it takes about 2 wks to get there.

 

I just made a couple of brimless skullies out of Bernat Softee Chunkee (in a very manly maroon <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/cutewink.gif" />) Project Ships seems to be disbanded now, but I remember reading there that non-bulky, brimless hats were better because they could wear them under their helmets. Anyone have a military friend who could confirm this?

Or any other hints about what is the best sort of thing to crochet for troop use?

yes they do like wearing them.. BUT they prefer the camoflouge colors.. Such as black, brown, beige, dark green..

Do too when they take off the helmets their heads are still camofloged.

I just wanted to say that my husband is stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. Landstuhl is the receiving hospital for Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom soldiers.

 

Our Chaplain's office has a clothing closet located in the hospital. Donations are always accepted, as the wounded soldiers arrive with only the clothes on their backs. We are in need of hats, scarves and gloves right now.

 

If anyone would like to donate items, please email me and I can give you more information. Thank you for thinking about our troops. God bless America!

Wool is best for troops (acrylic melts if it burns) Wool can be worn with the uniforms 'outside the wire'.

 

Helmet liners are needed in winter.

 

Black, grey, tan for colors

 

DON"T use jungle camo. Make sure it is desert camo.
