My favorite thing to make is 1 bootie for each guest. It is worked pink for girl, blue for boy. They make up really fast. Can do several in one night. I use a premmie-bootie pattern,

and a F hook.

I put stuffing in the toes, bottom and ankles to make them stand, and add pastel mints to the booties. I then place them on the table with the refreshments. Makes a stunning display.

That is such a fabulous idea. I will have to have a baby now so I can make them for my baby shower. Or find a willing friend, hahahaha

I'm one of the few that dislikes booties, bibs, rattles, etc. if I'm the guest.

Most of that stuff ends up in a drop forever fogotten, or in the trash. It's nothing personal. It just doesn't fit in with my decor nor do I have room for it.

In my opinion better gifts would be something useful to the guest.

These teacups are cute and you could add a candle (not to be burned in them unless there's a votive holder), candies, soaps, or flowers. While it is along the lines of a basket, it's updated and if they have kids, the kids can play with them.

I have to agree with Empress Busy Bee about giving something that won't be stuck away in a drawer and forgotten.

Another thought: a jar of nice jam or preserves (store bought or home-made) with a crocheted doily cover attached with a pink or blue ribbon.

My idea was just keeping to the theme of the baby shower. And what works in my neck of the woods.

No offense was meant. It's just my own opinion about what I do and don't like.

For showers I've given, I've used baby bottles as flower vases. I give those to the mom to be. I used a baby bath tub for a punch bowl, froze rattles and teethers in ice and floated them in the punch. Again all that went to the mom to be after the party.

For gifts and prizes, I gave things I thought our guests would like and use which would not be baby bottles, rattles, or booties.

I think the bootie idea is cute!

When I threw my niece her shower, we tried to have a theme. Grandma is a lit teacher, so we did a "literaray layette" where we asked people to bring and sign a board book for the baby - so she would have a library all ready for her.

Then in keeping with the theme, we gave everyone bookmarks (and yummy handmade and decorated cookies)

I really like the idea of making bookmarks. They would remind the guest of her special friend or family member and the shower that was given. I would put a picture of the mom to be on it. In the olden days.....we never gave anything to the guests. Everything was for the mom to be. Even the little gifts that we gave out as prizes for games were things for a baby. Hopefully, the winner would then just give the prize to the mom to be. I am hosting a bridal shower this month and all of my prizes for a game are kitchen items...hopefully, some will be given to the bride to be. You could also pour a molded candy of a baby and put it in a little tulle sack with a ribbon. This can be eaten!! Have fun at your shower!
