Here's a tip that helping this newbie

I think I've finally found a doily pattern that is simple enough for me to complete. :cheer I'll try to post a pic when it's done.

Anyway, I sometimes have trouble finding the 2 loops that are the top of a stitch, and if the stitch is tight it's difficult to get the hook through both front and back loops. Last night while I was working on the doily, I used a tapestry needle to find the loops and set them apart from the rest of the threads so it would be easier to run the hook under both loops. I didn't need to do that for all the stitches, but I found that the first dc in a 3 dc series frequently was tight and needed a little help.

I hope this tip helps other newbies with similar challenges.:yes

Great tip! It'll help us old folks who have to squint to see everything too:D ! Thanks (but that doesn't mean I'm taking up doily-making anytime soon!)

Something a friend of mine also told me was to use a smaller hook on that first chain. So if you are working with a size 7 hook you could use a size 10 for that first chain. That has worked for me too.
