Suggestions for Scarf patterns

beachlady

Question

Sure wish the "search" on this site worked better, cause I know there must be a zillion scarf patterns on this site. I have found some, but I was looking for something different other than the, real simple ones we all know. Anyone got any good areas for me to look in. I spend so much time seeking and less crocheting, not really but just about. I have made many just this week, family hitting me up, to fill their Xmas list for friends and teachers. :*csheep

I just finished a scarf for my daughter, but with a little extra length it would make a great lacy look scarf for an adult. I'll post a pic and the pattern later today when I know she won't be looking. 8)

mmouseplus.gifI think the Diagonal Box Stitch makes a very nice quick scarf. I made one five blocks wide and six feet long for my kids' dad for his birthday. I crocheted the fringe (starting in corner, *ch 25 sc in next stitch on scarf edge.* Repeat from * to * across narrow edge of scarf. Repeat on other end.) and it turned out very nice.

Depending on colors, yarns, hook size one can make it "masculine" or feminine. The best part is that it works up quickly.

I agree also!! I just made one the other day for my brother-in-law for christmas. I used wool-ease worsted double stranded in the pines print with a J or K hook, don't remember. And I'm gonna make another for my father-in-law too. I'm also in the process of making a diagonal box-stitch poncho pattern. If you used a worsted weight yarn and a really big hook, you could come out with a gorgeous lacy shawl as well.

Sorry this picture is so late. :blush I was having trouble with my media card reader and tonight found out that someone had used it to store a few pennies. Here is a photo of the scarf I was talking about. It uses the Paris Stitch, found in the Crochet Stitch Bible. If you would like the stitch instructions, let me know. :)

This is what I did for the scarf, which is a little thinner because it's for my sister (she's 5), but you could definitely keep it at this width and just make it long.

Ch 13 (stitch is a multiple of 3 + 1)

Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 2, 1 sc in same ch as last dc, *skip 2 ch, [2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc] in next ch, repeat from * to end, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, skip first sc, [dc, ch 1, sc] in first ch 2 sp, *skip[2 dc and 1 sc], [2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc] in next ch 2 sp, repeat from * to end, turn.

Repeat Row 2 for length of pattern.

Thank you Tiff! I can't wait to try it out. The white is gorgeous.... and I just happen to have a white hat but no matching scarf.... but then again there's a couple of balls of black wool-ease in my basket, and a black scarf would be great with the white hat, as it has black fur trim.... or.... oh my, so many options! I'm going to have to think about this *g*
