My felted scarf

I am new in felting. But yesterday I made my first felted project and I should say I like it!

The yarn is rather old with no labels on it (I found it somewhere far in my wardrobe). I didn't know if it would be felted, but I decidet to try. I crochet a big-big scarf with big-big holes. Put it in a waching machine and it became very-very small with small holes! But after I pulled it in all directions it became bigger, and here it is:

 

 

Now I want to make a felted hat, but I am afraid to make it too big or too small!

Very pretty, Hellen. How did you manage the grid effect? Did you add short fringe around the edges? I really like that design.
