That is really pretty! When I saw the pattern I really didn't think that I liked it but I really like yours. I guess that proves just how much your color selection can change a pattern.

Tiffany that is a really nice afghan. :cheer You've done great on it. Thanks for the pictures. I like the close up so I can see the stitches and how it's joined. It's really nice.

I have crocheted a few more squares for my next color round (still sewing on the claret/burgendy). So plugging along.

Tiffany, I love your colors! :flower Your diamonds are a lot more regular than mine were, too - I crochet too tightly....:sigh

Now I'm encouraged to try the whole pattern to keep for myself, not just the scaled down version I made for a friend's baby. I really like how you incorporated the variegated yarn - too gorgeous! :clap

Thanks for all of the comments! :) I am really happy with the way the colors turned out. It almost reminds me of a flower rather than a star. This is one that I'm keeping for myself as they colors match my bedroom.

O.k. I know I read it somewere but can't find it now that I want to know......what pattern have people been doing to the around the world afghan? I know I should NOT actually join this cal and start yet another project but I've been wanting to make an afghan for my goddaughter and I think this would be a good one in pinks, purples and white. You all are such bad influences...:devil ....I love it:yay

Wow! BTW, did you tell us before what the yarn was? (memory loss here; what was it again?) :think oops, just remembered it's from the Lion brand booklet on homespun - is that what you used, or something else?

Yep it's homespun...the varigated yarn is Prairie, but I can't remember name of the green color (hunter green, but they have a much more technical color name I'm sure).

I just looked at their website...it's probably olive, but I'm not totally sure.

I started an around the world afghan. I plan to make it shades of pink, white and purple using mostly from my stash. I have three squares done. They seem to work up fast and my son loves to play with them when I'm done with them. How did any of you join the squares and with which color?

Thanks, Shelly! I've got a quilt block book that shows multiple ways of arranging a drunkard's path (seems to also be called love ring, and other names, depending on how colors are used) and I'm going to give one of the designs a try. I may have to use a smaller, more defined yarn, though; you were very brave to use the homespun! and boy, did it work for you!

I find quilt-ghans simply fascinating.....

on the topic of joining pieces, I notice that the Annie's Attic website has an interesting join technique using Tunisian (afghan) stitch here. Looks interesting and I like the idea of less bulk.... :think:yes

Wow!!:clap You have all done wonderful work with your quilts. I have always wanted to make a wuilt but never actually sat down to start it, but your wonderful work has me hooked! (pun intended) Making a crochted quilt had never occured to me. And I do believe that I will be starting an around the world quilt.

Another project to add to my WIP!

Enjoy your beautiful works of art!

Hi, I'm Melena. How funny, just the other day I decided to make a crocheted quilt for my boyfriend. I picked out 3 designs I liked and thought would be fun/challenging. He picked out the one he liked best- Prairie Star.

My boyfriend is Native American and this is a throwback to the Morning Star quilt that many Lakota women have made in the 1800's. Instead of a center star, I am going to add a design of either a wolf, buffalo, or eagle. Probably from a cross-stitch graph or something I come up with on graph paper. If I do the wolf (because I cant find a buffalo I like and birds aren't really my "thing") I'll probably do blues, whites, and grays for the colors with those colors used again to do the wolf. No $$ to buy yarn just yet so I'm hoping by next summer I can finish this---so far away!!!!:no

Happy Hookin'!

Melena :manyheart:yarn

I don't think there is a start or finish date for any CAL, that I can tell. I asked to joined this after JulieKay finished hers and I was "accepted". I think they keep going until no one is doing them anymore. And since I love quilts and am looking at other crochet pattern ones, this one may go on forever LOL.

Melena, yours sounds like it will be beautiful! I have thought of doing a wolf graph afghan as our family has Native American friends (Navaho) and our big white dogs remind me of wolves...
