I like crocheting  "surface stitch". Here is a picture of a corner Baby Blanket I crochet that using dc. It was a square shape. I did that "surface stitch" in white color between dc.. That "surface stitch looks very nice on round coasters, I made couple sets of them.

Mona- Love that idea for scrap cotton! The pattern looks simple enough to whip a set out in no time.

Krys- Nice work on all your surface crochet.

I think I'll save this pattern for a diversion when I get bored with a larger WIP. Thank you for sharing Mona.

Here are my two vertical striped items that you inspired me to try. A dishcloth and a potholder.

Those look great! I've definitely got to try the pattern.

Thanks. It is a good pattern, the only thing is that my squares were more like 6.5" not 8" so check your size when you chain on.

Nice cloths Cindy. Did you use a H/8 hook?

I have some HL- I love This Cotton I may try out this pattern on.

Thanks! Yes I did use an H (5 mm) hook. I do tend to crochet tightly so just check your chain on length.
