Thread Purse in Progress

Mint

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd share what I'm working on; started this purse last Tuesday. Still a ways to go, but it's starting to take shape (I'm not working off a pattern ;) ). The stich doesn't show well on the picture, but it's just shell stiches around and around.

Thanks for the encouragment all :)

This thread was intimidating at first, but I really like the detail such small stitches make! Probably the hardest part was starting the base - I did it first with two strands of the thread and frogged it, it was too hard to see my sc and was becoming very wonky shaped. With the #10 thread base to get me going it was much easier to change over to the teeny tiny stuff. It isn't nearly as scary to work with once you have it started!

Oh my goodness! Kudos to you for crocheting with thread! I have on my list the painted doilies but as that uses several threads together it should not be too bad....but crocheting with just one??? Wow!! Excellent job!!

What are the painted doilies, and do you use sewing thread with them too? very curious......:hook

Here is a link to a site selling the pattern book: http://store.knitting-warehouse.com/260856.html and here is a link to a larger picture of them: http://www.kelsea.ca/aa874111.htm

Basically the painted doilies are crocheted using 3 sewing threads held together. What is spectacular about them (aside from the fact that you need to use thread!) is that they achieve a gradual shift between colors by changing the colors one thread per round until all three are the new color! You could use this concept of thread & gradual color change I am assuming with any doily pattern!
