Finally figured it out

Thanks to Knitting for Dummies, i FINALLY figured out why and how to keep something that is one row knit and one row purl from curling, and also how to purl a stitch after knitting a stitch. So now my second Special Olympics scarf will turn out decent.

May I also recommend that you do several rows of garter stitch (knit every row) at the bottom of the scarf as well to keep that from curling. It will curl there too.

 

Otherwise it looks pretty good.

As insulting as the titles are, a lot of those "dummies" books are really great!!

The best thing to do when you start knitting is to do a little reading...you can go to Barns & Nobel and look through the books and see what might strike you as interesting. A really good one is Vogue Knitting, and you can find general books on Ebay cheaply. There is so much to learn that is fundamental and then when you come across such a situation, like trying to uncurl a scarf, you'll have that information ahead of time. There are patterns that take advantage of that curling that are quite cool!

Great job! I have that book and that was how I finally figured out how to knit. It is packed full of alot of info.

Good to know the book is worthwhile-- I too have been having a similar problem. The last thing I made I just crocheted around all the edges to straighten it out .
