marking hooks

I just recently purchased a larger wood hook from Fancy Kitty which feels just wonderful. After looking it over, I got to wondering how to remember the size of these larger hooks that aren't marked. I just have one now, so it is not a problem, but when I build up my wood hook collection, how do you remember? This is an N hook , but I also want to get some larger than that. I assume that most home made hooks don't have size marked, no matter whether they are small or large hook size.

Anyway, do any of you mark your hooks in a way that won't damage them?

I know there are gauges, but do they measure the big hooks?

I have an artist friend who paints the size on the end of each of my graydogs - and I have lots of them. I tried to do it myself but I don't have the fine coordination that she has. She has done them all in a gold paint. Looks really nice.

A couple of my crystolites (sp by lionbrand pretty hooks) are not marked at the end. Even the one that is marked is hard to see. I was thinking about using an etcher/dremel type tool and carve it on the end to make it easier to know what they are.
