Comfort Ghan Colors

Well I was planning to do a poll, but there's no option for that here soooo....

Here's the picture I posted before:

The squares wont necessarily be staying in this order. Holly made a good point that the two solid teal squares shouldnt be so close together so your eyes arent drawn to that section of the afghan. So squares will most likely be moved around. Tiff's squares are shades of purple, and then there's one set left. I would like to go ahead and start bordering the squares but I need to know which color we'll be bordering them in. Here's the color choices:

Orchid

Light Plum

Medium Plum

Purple

Medium Purple

Teal

My thoughts: I would border the squares in one color to make each square seperate and pop out from the other squares, then I would do a sc border and joining of the squares in another color, then that joining color would be the first round of the whole afghan border (gotta make the outside of the squares look the same as the inside!), then the square border color would be the second color in the afghan border, then we would have a third color for the outside border of the afghan. How does this sound to everyone?

I like a lighter purple color (such as orchid or light plum) to border the squares with, then I think teal would be a good joining color, with a darker purple as the outside border color such as medium plum or medium purple.

I want to know your thoughts on this too!

I like that combination too!

I think having the dark purple as the outside border will work like a picture frame on the whole ghan

Chelle, you are an angel to do all this work!!! It's too bad we didn't all live closer, we could have a crochet-bee

Hey, Chelle, sorry about not having the poll option available. It's not automatically enabled, and we've only added it to specific forums as needed. And it only lets you list a maximum of five options to vote for, anyway. :P

I haven't participated in this ghan, but may I give my :2 ? :D! This ghan is already pretty busy with all the various colors in the squares and I know it's cliche but nothing makes individual squares pop like black. So here's my unsolicited :ohdear suggestion:

Border the squares in black.

Join the squares in black.

Afghan border: first row black, second row teal, third row black, fourth row light plum.

Oh gosh, I was thinking the other day it might look good edged and joined with that dark purple or even black, and then some of the purples in the border. :thinking1 Majority rules, okay? Don't make a big ordeal out of choosing the color. Count the votes, and go with which got the most. :thumbsup

Call me wishy-washy... but I have been swayed by the thought of the black yarn (thanks Donna :ohdear ).

Like I said before though... I am EASY on this. Whatever the majority goes with is fine by me. :D!

Ok, how about this..squares bordered in a dark purple (we dont want to do black because the whole idea of the ghan was to make it in Christie's favorite colors which are purple and teal), then joined with either orchid/light plum or teal, then the second afghan border would be teal or orchid/light plum whichever wasnt chosen for the joining since the joining color will be the first border color, then the dark purple will be the outside edging that was used in the square borders? Holly will be mailing me some teal yarn to use for this and I think it will be a good color to use in the bordering/joining because we want to stick with the purple and teal theme.

Just let me know - Im easy too :)

okay, maybe i like your 2nd thought better. i think the darker color to do first edging.....

you know, i think we are all pretty indecisive and comfortable with your decisions. just my opinion, but do what you think will look best. you are the one doing the work and they are all in front of you to see clearly. i think it'll look great no matter what. :clap

K! I picked up a 16 oz skein of dark plum - love them pounder skeins! - plus I have an 8 oz skein in my stash so should have plenty of that, I will use that for the square bordering. Then Holly mailed out the Teal yarn today (2 skeins) so that should arrive well in time by the time I'm done bordering the squares - and I picked up 2 skeins of Orchid for the second bordering on the outside of the afghan. The lapghan for Jordan will be bordered/joined exactly like her moms afghan. I hope this sounds good to everyone!

Ok, I just had an idea! :clap Im finishing up some wedding pillows then I will be bordering the squares for this afghan and lapghan. I was thinking about the colors (dark plum, orchid, and teal), and had the idea what if I bordered the squares in both dark plum and orchid (next to eachother, not on the same square)? So going across the top of the ghans would have dark plum border, orchid border, dark plum border, etc...then the next row would start orchid, dark plum, etc? Would that look ok do you think? I thought it might be a nice different look.

Let me know your thoughts!

she is going to call me back tomorrow when something is found out......
