local fair

Recommended Posts

I am for the first time this year entering a crochet afghan and possibly a knitted scarf in the local fair. I was just wondering how many crochetvillers have or are planning on entering items in their local fairs? And what items you are considering. (i.e. afghan, clothing, etc.) :hook

I'm getting several things ready to enter in our state fair. I have to have my list of entries sent in by July 1. I have to deliver my items on July 28 to the fairgrounds for judging. I've never entered in the State Fair before. I'm anxious to see if I get any ribbons. The competition is pretty stiff there.

Being in the state fair would make it even more special if you win. :cheer

I have never been to the Ohio state fair but I can imagine what the entries must be like.

I have until August 17th to get my entries done and turned in. Good luck to you!

I love our McHenry County Fair. I plan on entering two afghans, two crochet clothing items and maybe a miscellaneous item.

This is the first year we can enter two items in a single lot. So I am ready. I have made two in the past and always seem to enter the wrong one. I've only made it to 2nd place for an afghan.

So this year, I am already working on items and can hardly wait until August!

Let us know how you do in your first fair. Good Luck!

Ickaboo: You really need to check out the Ohio State Fair...I don't believe there are contests for handiwork, though. You should go this year just so you can say you've had the experience. Which county are you in? I'd like to enter in the Franklin County fair this year, but don't know if I'll get my afghan design finished by then.

I entered last year and received blue ribbons for everything I entered....so, this year I plan on entering again! I am thinking I will enter a bird house afghan, my cupcake top, a felted snowman gift bag with needle felting details and probably some of my knitting also. The Oneida County fair isn't until the end of July, so I still have some time to decide!

Good luck on you entries.

I live in Hancock county. That is too bad if there aren't any contests for handiwork. I love walking through and seeing everything. At the Hancock county fair last year I kept looking at everything and saying I could do that. :lol So, I am! I will have to see about the State fair this year though. Last year I was preggers so there was no way I could go.

  • 3 weeks later...

Good Luck with your entries!

I entered our local fair for the first time this year.

Yesterday was the final drop off date for your entries. When I took my afghan I was the only entry in the catagory I had chosen. I really hope there are other entries, I don't want to win a ribbon by default because I was the only entry. Since this was my first entry I kept it simple, a shell baby blanket, all in one color.

I saw a few of the entries when I dropped my item off, there were several granny square afghans, that was the most popular catagory. And another large stack was afghans of a single color, but I couldn't make out the stitch. The woman that escorted me to the tables was watching me like a hawk, I'm sure to make sure you don't make off with someone's entry, so I didn't feel comfortable looking too closely at the other entries! I guess I will have to wait until the fair to see what the others looked like.

I found out from talking to the woman that the judging is in three days! The fair starts in two weeks.

There are pics of my entry on my blog

I'm not doing the county fair this year (I'll be at Chain Link the day that I have to drop off my entries). However, I'll have something in the Kentucky State Fair. I'm entering the Elvis afghan that won a blue ribbon in last year's county fair.

Tammy...

Your afghan is beautiful. Your right, the stitches look perfectly consistent...and it is just beautiful. What kind of yarn did you use?

Thanks for the comments. I used 14 oz White Red Heart Pompadour Yarn {The kind with that shiny thread wrapped around it.} and an 'E' hook.
