weird hook

while i was at my grandmoms i got some more thread crochet hooks (they were her MILs i think)

 

and the #7 steel hook (susan bates) has a weird white thing on the end of it... in a way it looks like a small pen cap

its not removable

 

any idea what it is?

I've got one of those hooks too, I got it from my mom. The cap on hers is black... I have no clue either.

I have some of those too, they had kind of a aqua colored cap......with a little hook? I don't know why they are on there either?

These are called Clips On hooks. You "clip" the hook to your thread to keep the stitches from slipping.

I have one of thoose also - But the "Clip" has been bent to the point where that would not work - but I keep the hook as it was my grandmothers.

I have a lot of these. I am pretty sure they are different colors according to size. They also seem shorter.

I have a grey one. Thought the clip was to hook onto a breast pocket when the hook is not in use, lol. Will have to try it with the thread attached.
