I recently made five baby blankets for charity. I made one large granny square with a Q hook holding three different color yarns from Bernat Cottontots (or any WW yarn you like). You can easily make one of these in an afternoon/evening, and the colors are great together. Use one skein each of three different colors, and save enough to make four tassles, one for each corner. (If you use the Cottontots variegated yarn, you'll need two skeins.)

There's no pattern for this. It's my design, if a large granny square can be a "design."

It takes me about two hours to make this newborn-sized baby sweater. (Hey, newborns are SMALL.)

"Aunt Jen's Sweater:" http://www.sandiangels.com/pattern-page.html

It goes even faster than the BICO because the main body is essentially lacy shells that go FAST, and there are no seams to sew -- the collar/placket folds over on itself while you're making it and is secured with the DCs for the next row. You make the whole body, and then go back and crochet the sleeves onto it directly.

I absolutely adore this sweater enough that I'm willing to use smileys to share my feelings. :cheer:manyheart

My only issue about this sweater is that I'm not sure if it would look as good for a boy as for a girl, since it looks kinda dress-like. But man, it is one fast and very pretty sweater! Seriously, less than 1/5 of the time it takes me to make a blanket, and I am a very fast crocheter.

Hope that helps...

*** I LOVE IT!!! I want that for my daughter lol.

I am definatelly going to book mark that.

but last night another friend and I decided on on items to purchase for her rather than to make. we just doubt she will use them plus I know she has more than enough clothes for the baby (girl by the way) lol

So we are doing the necessities and usefull items; diapers, food, wipes etc.

I think I am going to build it all into a diaper cake.

thanks for the link thu lol I might try to figure out my dd's size I LOVE IT!

Here's a link to one that a lady made in about 8 hours (pattern here too), it's a blue granny

http://www.jpfun.com/patterns/free/1...marathon.shtml

http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/5-daylovie.html Bev's 5 day baby blanket , but you could probably make it faster, depending on your time and speed.

http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/patterns/bubbles_baby_blanket.php this one is suppose to take only 3 hours to crochet.

Any done in 2 strands can be made really quick.
