squares needed for a friend

I work with a lovely lady at the group home. Her husband has been sick on and off for about eight years with some mysterious bowel disorder, buy has always been able to work up until last year. The doctors here have been giving him the run around, saying it's all in his head, however he's lost about 70 pounds since this time last year. I guess the hopspital/doctors don't want to accept responsibility that maybe he was misdiagnosed and underwent unnecessary surgery 3 years ago that has done severe irreplaceable damage to his bowel. She only works part-time with me and he's not working at all right now. The community had a benefit dance for them a month ago, which took care of their mortgage for a few months and will get them through the holidays. They have 2 daughters- one is 19, the other is 13. on top of all that, my friend's mother is very ill. She lives alone just down the road from them and insists on staying alone. She calls them every hour on the hour to check on her oxygen tank, and even though she has nurses come in 3x a day, she still calls my friend at all hours, because in her mind, she's not sick enough for nurses or doctors, and that " they're just after her money", of which she has very little. The hospital finally admitted the woman last night with a bad case of pnuemonia ( my friend and her hubby had the woman in the ER 6 times last week and each time they sent her home and told her to rest!)

My friend is a wonderful person who embraces life wholeheartedly! My job at the group home is a better place to be because she makes us all see the best in things. But it is so sad to see her and her family go through all of this. She is so overwhelmed by everything... I want to do something for her to make her feel that she is not alone!I just can't do all of the squares by myself at this point. Even if you can't send squares, your prayers and thoughts would be appreciated.

I guess any squares 6" and larger would do, possibly in earthy tones. And I guess plain acrylic as it's easier to wash and care for.

I'd appreciate any help with this. It just breaks my heart to see someone who is so giving to others go through so much...

Thanks

Neicy

Thank you so much ladies. I will be posting pics of the squares in different arrangements as soon as I get them- you can help me decide which looks better before I stitch them together! I just know that my friend will be so overwhelmed, but this time in a good way! Her mom is still in hospital, btw, no mention of her coming home either!

Thanks again.

Just to let you know that I haven't received the boxes yet. I expect they'll be in sometime this week.I'll let you know as soon as they do. I've been busy doing both 12" and 6" squares so I'm taking them with me to work so I can spread them out on the floor and take some photos ( more room there) just so you can see what I've accomplished. I'll be ringing in the new year at work, crocheting, once my residents go to bed! Happy New Year to you all!

The squares might be delayed a day or two more getting there. Due to the passing of former President Gerald Ford, I beleive our postal service is closed today and of course yesterday due to New Years.

Update as of 1 pm my time today:

Just received a package from crochetingclara in the mail today. Thank you sooo much. I love those colors and I'm sure my friend will too. They had another set back yesterday... her mom is still in hospital, and her DH was sick throughout the holidays, but they got a call from a specialist who had a cancellation and offered to look at him today. So I agreed to cover her shift at work and feed her dogs while they went out of town for the appointment. All was well. Two hours later, they get a call-no appointment but they'd be happy to put him on their waiting list, which is average wait of about 9 months. Very upsetting for both of them. I can't wait to give her this big homemade hug once I get it together!

Hey All! I finally got a chance to unpack the bag(suitcase actually) that I've been putting my squares in, so here's some pics for you. Keep in mind they are not blocked, and I have no clue as to how I will put them all together! Wendy: nothing at the post office yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Any suggestions for a color to use to put these together???

Thanks for looking

Now, it's starting to storm outside so I guess I'll spend my evening figuring out how to put them all together!
