Where are the freeformers?

I'm interested in trying this technique and would love to hear others' tell what they have made. My attempts have all been frogged. Maybe I just don't get it! Various website have gorgeous pieces, though I'd never be brave enough to wear some of them. I could do a handbag maybe. Or pillows.

Anyone out there?

right now, i'm designing my own arm warmers as i could not find a pattern anywhere for a pair that went all the way to the elbow. they're completely freeform. i'm making them how i want to and the only inspiration is a picture of some knit arm warmers that a friend of mine made. i'm even writing a pattern, but only so i can make the second one in the pair (lord knows i'll forget what i did to make the first)

it's not hard to free form. hats are the easiest. i make free form beanies and berets all the time. scarves too. i've been crocheting since i was 6 (i'm now 24) and all i ever knew was free form! i picked up my first pattern book back in 2000. as fun as patterns are, i just don't feel as creative when i make something from a pattern. i see patterns as a way to try out something you don't know how to do. once you've done it, then you can go and free form more.

it takes time and practice, and patience to be comfortable with freeform. once you get used to it, you'll never look back.

if you have MySpace, look up Mr. Wander. he's a freeformer and probably the nicest person i've ever met. he'll give you tips on how to freeform and encourage you as well.

good luck!

I made mittens - you can find them in the freeform index here, just start small & build up to something more spectacular.

Good Luck

I wish I could do freeform!

Here are a few links I love to admire. I know it's not the same as people sharing their own here like you requested but its "something"

Simonssez, I loved the photos on this site http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/elegantcrochet/my_photos

Hadn't seen it before. Wonder if I could do some squares (she called them squarts) for an afghan. The finished product was gorgeous!

Alice

I think that would be gorgeous and make the most unique thing ever. Perfect way to use up scraps. I hope if you decide to that you'll post some pics!

Have you seen the freeform photo pool here? Lots of amazing stuff. You check out my freeform projects so far here.

I have so many ideas brewing in my head right now but on my hook are doilies another passion of mine. I want to get back to some freeform after the holidays.

I have started a freeformed dog sweater for my cocker spanial. I looked at the many pattern suggestion that were sent to me and decided to go for it. Can't wait to see what happens!:bounce :bounce

Sammi-Thanks so much for those links...you've done some neat stuff. I think the only freeform of yours I'd seen was the cozy.

I LOVE that circle/wave themed oven mitt. I'm actually doing circular motifs for a blanket for my niece but would love to figure out how to add in the waves/curves too instead of just joining circles. It 'looks' like it should be easy but I'm not the brightest bulb in the box! ha ha!

I'm working on a free-form afghan. I'll put up pictures when I can. It started as a baby afghan made of scraps and now that my daughter isn't baby size anymore, I'm adding to it so that she can still use it. I just can't stand the thought of putting it away or getting rid of it just because it's too small. I hope to keep adding to it as she grows.:yarn

Hi Alice,

We are alive and well. I just returned home from The Mall of America in MN, where I did 4 demos on free form knitting and crochet. I have a little challenge that I use in my classes to get you started on free form. If you would like a copy, please write to me at MHDesigner1@aol.com and ask for it. I will be teaching free form at Chain Link this year.

Margaret
