My Version of the Jayne Cobb hat or a Super 70's ski hat

I had these colors left from a few other projects & had to give it a go. After 3 failed attempts at knitting:blush (couldn't go 1 row w/o a mistake!) I have decided this is not a good 1st knitting project, as mentioned on the web site where I found the pattern:thumbdown .

 

I crocheted during the premier of Battlestar Gallacteca, just to add to the sci-fi geeky-ness:applause. Mine is just a long rectangle if crocheted ribbing sewed into a tube and gathered at the top, then I added the earflaps and a pom-pom. This ribbed kind of hat always seems to fit well. I used 2 strands of RHSS held together & its mighty warm.

The Jayne hat looks great! I offered to make one for a friend to give to another friend, but I haven't found the right coloured yarns yet. Thanks for the tips on how you made it, that will really help me. Don't know how you managed to make it during BSG though. I had to put my crochet down, it was too gripping to concentrate!
