Intimidated beginner here

Miztiki

Question

Hello everyone. I've got some yarn and don't know what to do with it now, so I hope you can help me.

Years and years ago I made a baby blanket. The other day I made a scarf for my husband's trip to Norway. That's about the extent of my experience.

He thinks I'm some kind of expert now and wants me to make a couch-snuggling blanket. He picked up four 1 pound skeins of Caron worsted weight, 4-ply, acrylic yarn. One is a light green and the other is cream colored.

What am I gonna do with it?

I'm thinking of making a bunch of different granny squares so I have a chance to try different stitches. I've never made a square before though and I'm afraid my squares won't be the same size. Would a granny square blanket be too much for a beginner? If that would be ok then I could join them together with a third color too.

What do you think about a granny square blanket for an inexperienced person? Thanks!

Miz

If you don't mind the joining part, I think a granny square afghan would be perfect for a beginner. You get a chance to practice all sorts of stitches and motifs and don't risk getting bored with one stitch. There are tons of granny square variations available - have fun and be sure to let us know if you have any problems!

granny squares are great! and very easy, if you can chain, slip stich, and double crochet then you can probably make granny squares

http://www.jpfun.com/patterns/01granny/grannysquare.shtml this is the square that i use....with granny squares you can make just about anything...slippers, ponchos, scarves, blankets....and you can make them as big or as little as you want just add as many rounds as you wish! and you can change colors and make the rounds different colors :) if you need help just send me a message and i'll do my best to help and welcome to the 'ville!

Gosh, I have been crocheting for awhile and the thought of trying to put a bunch of different squares together STILL scares me!!!

There are a ton of afghan patterns out there that are not join together type - just the simple going back and forth would probably work while your getting your feet wet.

There are a ton of patterns to look thru here:

Or maybe one of those GIANT granny afghans, those look pretty simple:

BTW - Welcome!!!
