2DC & DC2

I would guess, since you will be increasing; 2dc=2 dc in the same stitch and dc 2=1 dc in the next 2 stitches. Be sure to check for stitch explanations, usually before the beginning of a pattern or if from a book, at the beginning or end of the book.

Crochet patterns can be a lot like puzzles and you have to look for clues.  This pattern is written more in a shorthand. The numbers at the end of each line within ( ) are the stitch counts for that row so sometimes you have to look there to figure out what you need to do.

2 DC means to make 2 double crochets into one stitch of previous round ( some patterns only say inc short for increase)

DC 2 means make one double crochet in each of the next two stitches of the previous row.  

If pattern did not tell you you are going to have to decide whether the ch 2 at beginning of each row counts as a dc or not.
