Crocheted Yoke?

Question

I'm posting here because I'm not sure if it is a pattern question or a design question. I want to make a cap sleeve top to attach with buttons to my strapless sundresses so that I can wear them to work. I have searched high and low to find a pattern but nothing. Maybe I'm not using the right key words when I look. I have found several yokes that have straps but I need to be more covered up at school. I thought about a bolero but they are too long. I found some summer tops that I thought would work but the pattern is in Russian, I think it's Russian.

I don't have a lot of experience reading a pattern from a chart drawing. I work much better with a written pattern.

if anyone has a suggestion on where I could look for something that would work that would be awesome!

Have you looked at crocheting a shrug?  I think they're the perfect length jacket to pair with a sundress.  It'll be much easier to find a short jacket pattern, like a shrug and some boleros, than to find a top that you have to modify to attach to a sundress.  Plus, a short jacket is more versatile and you don't have to make any changes to the sundresses themselves.

Since you said cap sleeve, did you know a drop sleeve top or cardigan, without the sleeve, it is basically a cap sleeve?  T shirts are drop sleeve...Drop sleeves are also super easy, except for a little neckline shaping it's basically 2 rectangles, or 3 for a cardigan (but, shrugs are super easy too).

Also, if you find a raglan cardigan pattern, and leave off the sleeves, it's a cap sleeve with about the same coverage as a sleeveless drop sleeve.  Imagine a Scandinavian style ski sweater with the patterned yoke, without the sleeves--the yoke just covers the top of the shoulders.

So drop sleeve or raglan would be search terms that might work.  Note: garments designed with sleeves allow for a larger armhole opening versus sleeveless, you may have to tweak that measurement.  Here are a few examples, might need tweaking on the body length too:

Raglan:

Drop sleeve (you can see where the shoulder seams sit, slightly covering the shoulder)

This looks like it would work, just make it as long as needed http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ladies-puff-stitch-cardigan

if you have a yoke pattern you like but only has straps, you could add a wide ruffle to the strap to cover the top of your arms.  This is often seen in kids dresses.  Hard to find an example for adult version, but you could "wing" it pretty easily.  Sorry about the pun!
