Need Help in Buying Crochet Hooks

fornight

Question

Hi,  I am new here!

I am thinking of starting crocheting again.  I have not crochet for more than 10 years.  I just moved to another country, thus all my old crochet hooks were given away.  I was using the standard aluminium crochet hooks 10 years ago.

I wanted to start to do simple crochet project like a blanket for the sofas.  I went to ebay and found that there are lots of nice brands out there.  Clover, Addi and Hamanakan.  Which will you recommended?  I hold my hook like a pen and sometimes I put too much pressure which causes compression on my middle finger.

I can only purchase my hooks from ebay because of the country I live in.  Choices are REALLY limited in Norway!!

I woulds recommend Clover. They have two sets that I use, the soft touch and the amoura .

The soft touch offer american sized hooks. The amoura includes international sizing for hooks.

Both are comfortable to use.

Spiritwalker, that's useful information about the American/international sizes. I've been wanting a 4.5 mm hook, but had not started shopping for it yet. I checked ebay and found a Clover amour hook. I love the soft touch hooks, so I'll give this one a try. Thanks for the tip.

ll Clover hooks, depending on when there were manufactured for sale in the US and Canada have both the applicable Craft Yarn Council voluntary standard Letter designation and the Diameter of the barrel in MM.

I have some blog posts about the hooks I use, why and when for each brand. I use both knife and pencil grip depending on the needs of the student or the project (sometimes project trumps student)

Please note, my charts are based on a combination of resources - Actual Standards where they exist (Japan), voluntary standards such as those published by the Craft Yarn Council, and my opinion based on my personal experience.  YMMV

You may also find the following of my cross ref charts to be helpful.

There is  Wheat's Aluminum Crochet Hook Cross Reference located at:

and the Steel Hook Crochet Hook Cross Reference  at

It may be helpful to have the information in my Yarn Label reference

Again, my charts are based on my experience and preferences, yours may vary.

Thank you for all your advices!  I will start looking into the hooks recommended in ebay.  I am planning to learn solid granny squares to make a blanket. I hope I can finish it in time as a winter gift for an elder friend of mine.

Hi, I will look at the sellers in this site.  The problem is I live in Norway, thus delivery from US to Norway might be really expensive.  in Ebay, they have china sellers who is willing to sell their hooks for free shipping.
