It's also used for joining motifs, sewing pieces of crochet work together (ie: sweater made in pieces, you would sew the shoulders together, sleeves on, etc.), sewing motifs onto squares or garments, etc. Most people use crochet stitches (slip stitch or single stitch mainly) as oppose to using a crochet needle to whip stitch things together.

I mate sound crazy but I went and bought a yarn needle today and dont know how to use it lol:lol i know you sew with it on yarn and with yarn but how? :eek
of course you don't sound crazy, how can you learn if you don't ask questions right? i use it also to do cross stitch on my crochet. have fun with it,you can make some cool things with that along with your hook:hook

Speaking of cross stitch on crochet...I have this jacket pattern I'm dying to try. I have no idea what magazine it's from, but I know it was a few years ago. It's a white, knee length jacket with cross stitched flowers along the bottom and sleeves. OH so lovely!
