Red Heart Sampler Throw Question

At beginning in the 'Notes' section, on #3, it says to leave last ch of foundation ch unworked for knotting off.

 

What is knotting off?

 

I'm leaving the last chain unworked, but when I put my sc border around the edge, I just crochet over it. I don't understand the purpose of leaving it unworked. Do you?

the one i am working on says the same thing...i just chained one less and it looks much cleaner

My guess is they are calling fasten off knotting off in this pattern maybe. Can't wait to hear the answer as I looked over the pattern and have no clue. Mary

It sounds like what I do sometimes. At the end of an afghan I will tye a knot just to add extra security that it will not come undone.

I'm thinking it has to do with the border maybe?? First I've come across this.

I would work one of the easier blocks, work a couple of row and see what it looks like.

Can do what queenjennyk suggested, do one ch less.

The only time I heard of knotting off is at Annie's Attic, they had a section on it. The term mainly pertained to the Ladder Stitch or working with looms.

When I make an invisible join I don't finish the last st. Then the invisible join st doesn't add a st. So that's what those directions sound like.
