Smaller Cupcake Cradle Purse (Now with pics)

I figured I share this, there’s nothing much different about the pattern other than it is smaller and hdc is mainly used rather than dc. I had a request from my sister for a slightly smaller cradle purse, but she wanted me to keep the original cupcake shape and all the trimming on the cradle it’s self. You can find the pattern for the original Cupcake Cradle purse: Here. The Simple Dolly (Located: Here) fits in this great.

It’s very similar in size with the Easter Egg Cradle Purse.

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn in two colors (noted in pattern as C1 and C2)
Size G hook.
Yarn needle.

Finish Size:

Cupcake Form: 5 ½”h x 4’w at its widest, 3 ¼” across the bottom.
Cradle form: 4 ½”hx 4 ½”w counting hood.

Different stitches:

Front Post Half Double Crochet (FPHDC)

Back Post Half Double Crochet (BPHDC)

Reverse Single Crochet (RSC)

Note: In Rnd 5 of cake I work some of the stitches in the Back Backloop (bb) only (diagram: here), Its more of a personal preference. I think it helps it form just a little better.

Cake Part: (With C1)

Rnd 1: Ch2, 6 hdc in 2nd chain from hook, join with sls t to first hdc. (6hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 2 hdc in same st as joining, 2 hdc in each of the next 5 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (12hdc)

Rnd3: Ch1. 2 hdc in same st as joining, 2 hdc in each of the next 11sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (24hdc)

Rnd 4: Ch1, 2 hdc in same st as joining, 1 hdc in next st, [2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st] Do this 11 times, join with sl st to first hdc. (36hdc)

*Rnd 5: Ch1, 1 hdc in the bb of the same st as joining. 1 hdc in the bb of next st, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, [1 hdc in each bb of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts] Do this 8 times, join with sl st to first hdc. (36hdc)

*If you prefer not to do Rnd 5 this way, here is an alternate way.
Alt Rnd 5: Ch1, 1 FPHDC in same st as joining, 1 FPHDC in next st, 1 BPHDC in each of then next 2 sts, [1 FPHDC in each of the next 2 sts, 1 BPHDC in each of the next 2 sts] Do this 8 times, join with sl st to first FPHDC. (36sts total)(18FPHDC, 18BPHDC)

Note: If you have problems working with FPHDC of BPHDC, you can keep working in Rnd 5 as it originally is for Rnds 6-12 instead of doing the Post Stitches. You will just have a little less texture. Just make sure the cake part when done measures close to 2 ½”h.

Rnd 6: Ch1, 1 FPHDC in same st as joining, 1 FPHDC in next st, 1BPHDC in each of then next 2 sts, [1FPHDC in each of the next 2 sts, 1 BPHDC in each of the next 2 sts] Do this 8 times, join with sl st to first FPHDC. (36sts total)(18FPHDC, 18BPHDC)

Rnd 7-12: Repeat Rnd 6 (of cake part) for Rnds 7 thru 12. (36sts total)
After Rnd 12 finish off.

Rnd 1: Join C2 with a sl st to any st on Rnd 12 (of cake part), ch1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in each of the next 35 sts, join with sl st to first sc. (36sc)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 1 sc in backloop of same st as joining, 1 sc in backloop of each of the next 35 sts, join with sl st to first sc. (36sc)

Rnd 3: Ch1. 2 hdc in front loop of same st as joining, 1 hdc in frontloop of each of the next 35 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (37hdc)

Rnd 4: Ch1, 2 hdc in same st a joining. 1 hdc in each of then next 36 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (38hdc)

Rnd 5: Ch1. 2 hdc in front loop of same st as joining, 1 hdc in frontloop of each of the next 37 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (39hdc)

Rnd 6: Ch1, 2 hdc in same st a joining. 1 hdc in each of then next 38 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (40hdc)

Rnd 7: Ch1. 2 hdc in front loop of same st as joining, 1 hdc in frontloop of each of the next 39 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (41hdc)

Rnd 8: Ch1, 2 hdc in same st a joining. 1 hdc in each of then next 39 sts, join with sl st to first hdc. (42hdc)

Rnd 9: Ch1, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, ch1, skip next st, [1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, ch1, skip next st] Do this 9 times, 1 hdc in next st, join with sl st to first hdc. (10 ch1 spaces, 10 groups of 3 hdc)

Rnd10: Ch1, sl st in same st as joining, skip next st, 5 hdc in next ch1 space, [skip next st, sl st in next st, 5 hdc in next ch1 space] Do this 9 times, join with sl st in first sl st. (10 groups of 5 hdc, 10 sl sts)
Finish off and weave in ends.

Hood: (With C1)

Fold frosting down over cake part.

Row 1: Join yarn with a sl st to any backloop left unused on Rnd 2 of frosting, 1 sc in next loop, 1 hdc in next loop, 1 dc in each of the next 7 sts, 1 hdc in next loop, 1sc in next loop, sl st in next loop, ch1 and turn. (7dc, 2hdc, 2sc, 2sl sts) (13sts total)

Row 2: Skip sl st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 7 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1sc in next st, skip next sl st, sl st into same loop as joining sl st from Row 1, ch1 and turn. (7dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc, 1 sl st) (12sts total)

Row 3: Skip sl st, sl st in next st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in next st, sl st in next st, sl st in same loop as ending sl st from Row 1. (5dc, 2hdc, 2sc, 2 sl sts)(11sts total)

Row 4: Skip next sl st, RSC in each of the next sl st, sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc and sl st, skip next sl st, work RSC into each of the free backloops (From Row 2 of frosting) until you reach the first RSC, join with sl st to first RSC.
Finish off and weave in ends.

Note: If you have problem working with RSC, try going down a hook size and working in sc instead.

Cradle Trimmings: (with C1)

Trimming 1: Join yarn with a sc to any back loop left free from Rnd 4 (or frosting part), 1 sc in each of the next 37 back loops, join with sl st to first sc. (38sc)
Finish off and weave in ends.

Trimming 2: Join yarn with a sl st to any back loop left free from Rnd 6 (of frosting part), 4 sc in next back loop, [sl st in next back loop, 4 sc in next back loop] Do this 19 times, join with sl st to first sl st. (20 groups of 4 sc, 20 sl sts)
Finish off and weave in ends.

Outside Trimming: (With C2)

Unfold frosting part, so the outside of cupcake is showing. The inside of the cupcake (cradle and trimmings) should not be visible.

Join yarn with sc to any front loop left free of Rnd 1 of frosting, 5 hdc in next front loop, [1 sc in next front loop, 5 hdc in next front loop] Do this Do this 17 times, join with sl st to first sc. (18 groups of 5 hdc, 18 sc)
Finish off and weave in ends.

Straps: (make 2)

Ch76, sc in 2nd chain from hook and 1 sc in each of the next 74 chains. Leaving the last loop on the hook fasten off leaving a bit of a tail,

Repeat for 2nd strap, but do not fasten off.

Weave straps in and out of ch1 spaces of Rnd 9 of (of frosting part). One strap through one side, the other through the other side, until you have it the way you like. The ends of the strap should be on the outside of the cupcake, not the inside otherwise the purse won’t cinch right.

Join each of the straps together with a sl st, be careful not to mix them up. Finish off and weave in ends.

Note: If you want the straps longer just chain more before working in the sc.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!
