So how did you keep it from curling toward the purl side? I can see the stockinette stitch but I, too, assumed it must be a tube knit somehow.

Ah, it's NOT stockinette. I see. The K1, P1 rib hides that fact. Now I get it. Sorry to be so dense but it does look like stockinette to me.

I thought that it was a tube or you folded and seamed it after you were done..

Looking at the picture, I guess the dark color hids the rib edging.
