Materials:

Worsted Weight Yarn (like RedHeart) in:
A Main Color (I used light blue and petal pink in pic) and small amount of black for embroidering eyes.
Size E hook
Stitch Marker
Yarn needle

Finish Size: 2 ¼”h x 3”w x 5 ½” Long counting trunk and tail.

Different Stitches:
Hdc Popcorn St-6 hdc in next st, take hook out of loop, put hook in the loops of first hdc and the back into prior loop. Pull loop thru loops of first hdc and ch1.

Notes:

Elephant is crochet in one piece so there is no sewing.

Elephant is worked in a continuous spiral, do not join unless specified.

When doing my sc decreases, sometimes I do them in the front loops only. It helps minimize the hole sometimes left when decreasing.

Mark the first stitch of the round and move it up as you go along, to keep track.

Sometimes when I’m working in back loops only, I like to go in both back loops.

When Rnd 12 comes only work in the front loop only when indicated.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With Main Color Yarn ch2 leaving a tail to crochet over, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook crocheting over tail. (6sc)
Pull tail taut to close hole from starting.
Rnd 2: 1 sc in each of the back loops in each st around. This rnd only (6sc)
Rnd 3: 1 sc in each st around. (6sc)
Rnd 4-8: Repeat Rnd 2 for Rnds 4 thru 8. (6sc)
Rnd 9: 2 sc in each st around. (12sc)
Rnd 10: 1 sc in each st around. (12sc)
Rnd 11: [2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st] Do this 6 times. (18sc)
Rnd 12: Hdc Popcorn st in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, Hdc Popcorn st in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, sl st in front loop of next st, ch2, dc in same front loop, 2 dc in the front loop of next st, 2 dc in front loop of next st, ch2 sl st in same front loop, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, sl st in front loop of next st, ch2, 2 dc in same front loop, 2 dc in front loop of next st, 1 dc in front loop of next st, ch2, sl st in same front loop, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts. (10sc, 2 Hdc Popcorn Sts, 2 ears [sl st, 5 dc, ch2, sl st x 2])

Note:

The stitches you work in the front loops are going to be the ears, do not work into these stitches. For the next Rnd you will be working in the back loops left unwork by working in the front loops only (on Rnd 12). You should only have 6 back loops (behind the ears) to work sc into. The rest will be work regularly (thru both loops).

Rnd 13: 1 sc in each st around. (18sc)
Rnd 14&15: Repeat Rnd 13 for Rnds 14 and 15. (18sc)
Rnd 16: 1 sc in next st, Hdc Popcorn st in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, Hdc Popcorn st in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 12 sts. (16sc 2 Hdc Popcorn sts)(18sts total)
With black yarn embroider eyes onto elephant.
Rnd 17: [sc decrease next 2 sts together, 1 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (12sc)
Rnd 18: 1 sc in each st around. (12sc)
Stuff elephant, but do not stuff the trunk!!!
Rnd 19: [sc decrease next 2 sts together] Do this 6 times. (6sc)
Rnd 20: [sc decrease next 2 sts together] Do this 3 times. (3sc)
Sl st in next st and finish off leaving about a 2 inch tail.

Measure out a 3 to 4 inch piece of yarn. Insert hook into the sc loops of rnd 20, Pull up a loop using the piece of yarn, pull yarn ends thru loop and pull taut. With tail and yarn ends make a not. Separate yarn to make tail fluffy. Trim if desired.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!
