question

Recommended Posts

I have a question just because all of you know so much about charity stuff and I am not really new to giving this kind of stuff away and helping out. I was wondering how you go about finding out about some of my local hospitals and finding out if they need help with like some blankets or even things like hats for the babies. If anyone can let me know how I can go about doing this or even if someone in the area you are in is needing some of this stuff I start my stash busting in the winter...

Thank you

Kristen

If you look in the crochet for charity posts here there are several ladies taking squares and blankets and hats for their local hospitals. I definitely know TMKA and Crocus are collecting squares and blankets for a local hospital in Denver because many of their newborns get sent home wrapped up in towels. But if you are interested in donating to your local hospital you can call them and they will direct you to the individual who is in charge of taking donations etc. and they will give you specific instructions about what they will and will not accept and all the specific criteria that must be met in regards to types of yarn to use etc. In case they don't tell you, you should ask about accepting donations from individuals who smoke or have pets, as many people have allergies, they may instruct you to wash all items if they are not coming from a smoke free/pet free home. Hope this information helps.

I have been collecting and making baby afghans to take to the Children's Hospital NICU that saved my son. With Oakland Children's they have co-ordinators who handle these kinds of things. If you just call the hospital and ask to speak to the volunteer co-ordinator - or the child life specialist they should be able to direct you to someone that can help you.

Hi, KLH! I know you will love doing this. Here's a link that may help you: http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/neuro-caps.html (The caps don't have to go to neurology.)

Or, if you're writing from Moline IL, you can call Jean Reed, UI Hospitals, at 319/356-1241

She can tell you what they need.

One time I took a box of baby items to UI Hospitals Neonatal unit, and started putting things on their desk. Sometimes an unannounced visit is fun. You might try that at a Moline hospital. Or you can call your local hospital's administration office. Good luck!!

If you see the "brain surgery caps" thread on this page you'll see my main project.

Just call your local hospital(s) and ask for their Volunteer Services department. Nearly all have one no matter how small. They'll give you guidance on what they need.
