Thanks everyone for the compliments! It was a very easy bag to crochet (and quick too).

 

Angelhair: In regards to what yarn/thread to use, I think it will really depend on how big a bag you want. I used #20 thread with a 1.5mm hook - they were just what I happened to have laying around! My bag ended up being approximately 20-25cm square. I'm not sure of the exact size and can't measure it as I've already given it away as a birthday gift - sorry.

 

It is quick to work up so you could always experiment til you got the size you wanted.
