Vintage yarn

[Crochet Buffet]

I hope this is the right place to post this:

 

I just picked up 10 skeins of old Kmart & TGY yarn from the goodwill ($2.99 for all 10 )

Anyway, they have a funny smell. Not stinky, but... well, I would like to get the smell out.

 

Do I just crochet something & then wash, or is there something I can do to clean them before using it?

you can work it .. then wash it.. which if the smell isnt too bad.. is what i would do ..

 

now if you wanna clean it before hand.. take a pantyhose leg stuff the skeins in.. knotting after each one like sausages and wash and dry them ..

Also, if it's just slightly "off" open a box or two of baking soda and put it in a container with the yarn. A paper bag, box, plasic container, etc. will all do nicely.

I've done that and it works pretty well.

I add dryer sheets to the bags I keep yarn in.

I don't have dryer sheets, so I just added a sachet w/ homemade potpourri and voila - smells GREAT now! :clap:clap
