Tacking on flowers

I'm tacking on crocheted flowers to a blanket I'm making- how do I go about doing this? Do I use yarn or thread to attach them. Is there anything else I should know?

I use the same color yarn as the afghan if the flowers are different colors than the afghan. I just whip stitch them on usually in the center part leaving the petals to hang freely.

I've seen dental floss suggested somehwhere, and I've used clear fishing line before too. Both are VERY strong and pretty hard to spot.

Position the flowers with little safety pins then sew them on with a matching thread.

You could tie them on in a similar fashion to how quilters tie a quilt instead of quilting. Make sense?

I made some cotton totes and attached some embellishments with fabric tack. I am sure that is a crochet no no but it worked really well as some of the parts were felt.
