Teaching?

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies

I am going to be teaching crochet at the new (only) yarn store in town. I haven't taught in too many years to admit to so I am here to ask a simple question. Would starting with dishcloth cotton and teaching them how to do the stitches while making a dishcloth be a good beginners class? If any of you teachers out there have any ideas or help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much

I went to a local yarn shop and was taught the various stiches with varigated cotton yarn. I went twice and that got me started. I still have the sampler washcloth and refer to it often.

You have a great idea. It worked for me and I have advanced since then thanks to that initial great start. :D

Dishcloths or sampler squares. The dishcloths are usable as is, but with the sampler squares you could use regular worsted weight yarn and they could be joined to make scarves or hand bags, etc.

You might want to give your students an option to choose which yarn to use and to make either the dishcloths or the sampler squares.
