Thread lovers I have a question! Have you used anything other than standard thread...

Cotton Candee

Question

I have come across an online buyer where I get all my thread. Like most, I believe, I started with yarn and worked myself down to #3 then #10 then so on. Well, not being too bright on the sizes :think if not 3, 10, 20, or so on as stated... I bought some lovely yarn online. Number one reason people don't buy online they want to see and feel what they buy... but being me I ordered what I thought was a light weight chenille yarn. To my great surprise it is about a size 10 chenille! I have talked to the owner of the online store, she sends me samples before I buy, and she has a large variety of yarns that are actually thread sized. I have of course bought many and used few to none so far since I have too many irons in the fire but was wondering..

How many thread crocheters use something other than standard thread? If you do, what do you make out of it?

I have many thoughts on this but didn't know if anyone else does? It seemed to me that most thead crocheters do doilies.

I have used lace weight yarn for shawls and scarfs, I has a wonderful drape. I don't normally use it though for other things as the stitches aren't as defined as when I use thread. One of the reasons I love thread is the stitches show up so well. But the fine yarns do have their place. I can see it being used for like skirts if someone has the patience to do it.

Fiber Options is the store name and her user name is memc82 on eBay.

Melanie is a wonderful person to work with. I wanted to buy this one yarn and asked her about it and she actually told me not to buy it, that I wouldn't like it for baby things! Then she told me some others to look at that I would like. Get this, they were actually cheaper. I will tell you though, shipping is cheaper if you buy at least 2 cones instead of just 1.

I buy this kind of yarn for garments because cotton thread is too rough and thicker yarn gets too heavy.

This shawl is from a thread-sized boucle

THis sweater is from a lace weight alpaca (works up at about a size 3 because of its loft)
